Has anyone had a problem with incisions looking red and angry? I think we're supposed to report it to our surgeon if there is more than 2cm of reddness, but what if it's been red since day one and only looks slightly more ticked off? I've been applying neosporin to all 5 sites, with a different q-tip each, and still no happy results.

Any recommendations?

I'm gonna start applying Bactroban to it as well.

I also bathe in Hibiclens every night.

Honestly you may be overmedicating...not sure though!

Your safest safest bet is to call your surgeon. Clear your regimen with his office, and see if he wants to "see" you!

My incisions are also red.But my skin is also very white so I dont know if that makes it worse. My surgeon checked mine today and said everything was fine.

I think I was told to leave them alone and not to put anything on them........Mine still itch and are a little sore from time to time........

I'm also deathly pale, with a fishbelly-white tummy. I know such places turn horribly red after showering, even simple mosquito bites.

I was due for my 2wk follow up @ 9:30 this morning, but when 10:05 rolled around with 4 people still ahead of me, waiting to see my surgeon, I had to reschedule for next week so I wouldn't miss my 11am class.

These suckers are SO ITCHY! Being stuck in an incision-level desk for hours a day doesn't help, either.

I would call your doctor asap. I know I was told specifically not to put anything other than mild soap and warm Water on my incisions, especially not neosporin, etc. Your doctor may have different instructions than mine though. If you have the slightest thought that there could be an infection, you should be checked out. My sister had an MRSA infection right after her hysterectomy and its not a fun thing to go through, but the quicker to start treating, the less dangerous it becomes.

Good luck.

I agree with the others suggesting that you speak to your doctor. If you are trying too hard to make the redness go away with ointments, you may be aggravating your skin.

My incisions were red as well for some time after surgery. I didn't have infection and healed nicely . . . it might have just been that I have a very pale complexion.

I was banded on January 9th and I have redness on all of my incisions. They itch like crazy and today when I saw my surgeon he told me that I had an allergic reaction to the tape used with my dressings. He told me to use benadryl cream on them and I have some relief.

Like everyone here has mentioned see your surgeon but I know how the itching has been.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
