Problems with Band please help.

Recommended Posts

Ok so I will start with a quick background: First six months with the band, I lost 120lbs. lots of running and dieting. Everything was great at the time. I only had 6 cc's in the band. As of Sept/Oct of 2008 I started noticing that I could eat much larger portions, sizes that I was in no way able to even attempt before. I put it out of my mind as I was still maintaining my weight and exercise. However I started to slowly gain some weight, love those holidays, and it became harder to control my apetite. So I just got out of the Dr's office today to get checked out. She assured me that my concerns of a leak or faulty band was about less than 1%. So she inserts her fill needle and draws back on the plunger and to her amazement, not one drop of saline came out. She immediately changed her tune to "o.k. we may have a problem." She then put in the syringe about 6 cc's of saline, and then immediately drew back to see if it came out and only a drop or two came back out. So we have scheduled an X-Ray with an injectible dye to see if there is a leak. She feels and hopes that if anything it may be the port, port connection, or tubing, and will try to get the manufacturer to cover the cost. Anyone with any similar experiences or information for me would be greatly appreciated. If you had surgery to repair, what was that like?

You've done pretty well considering.

Dig in your heels and really try to keep on top of the weight gain and hopefully this will be fixed for you in no time.

I've got everythign crossed for you that its your port rather than the band so that it can be easily accessed and fixed.

I to had a leak-scariest thing for me was the weight gain. I felt so helpless. Turns out I needed to have my port replaced. Surgery was a breeze, nothing like the lapband surgery itself. Almost no healing time. Things will be fine before you know it and you will start losing again.

I too am having a leakage problem. Been going on 3 mos. I have gained 20 lbs. Go to Dr. next week for fluroscope with dye. I have now restriction at all. It is scarey but I know I will lose it once the problem is resolved, even if it requires another surgery. I love my band when it is working.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
