If anyone who has been through the procedure , or maybe if there is a nuse or two around? (I know I have seen a few nurses posting in other groups....)

how far down are your incisions?

The reason I ask is I am having surgery tomorrow and yesterday marked my TOM! I am wondering, logisitcally, how that will work during my surgery!!

Any help would be most appreciated!!!!

I had mine done on Jan 2 and also TOM...no worries. I wore a tampon and it was no big deal. All incisions were above my belly button. Although, when i woke up they had placed a towel down there and taped it to my underware line in the creases of my upper thigh...perhaps that was in case i unconsciously wet myself while i was "out"! Best of luck! you'll do great!

I have seen this issue in several threads and it seems that different hospitals handle it differently.

Some will give you paper panties to wear, some will allow a tampon, some will have you put a pad between your legs.

ok - this nurse feels a little silly! obviously TOM has something to do with your period but please tell me what it stands for.

also, i work in surgery and it has never been a problem for a patient to wear a tampon during a procedure. the exceptions would be if the surgery requires vaginal access or if the surgeon anticipates keeping the post-op patient sedated or comatose for an extended period of time. these situations could set up the potential for toxic shock syndrome if the tampon is forgotten.

best of luck to you.

I was so worried my surgery was scheduled for my TOM and it was no big deal.

I worried for nothing.

I just wore an nighttime pad; they gave me some net panties (woohoo sexy!) and everything was fine.

Don't worry!

It'll be alright!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
