Howdy from Tejas ;)

I'm Jessica. I'm a 29 year old single mom who has been researching lap band for several months. After being overweight my entire life (except for a period of illness when I was in kindergarten), I finally decided to take the plunge (or ascent?)

I'm scheduled to be banded in Juarez, Mex. on March 6. I'm going through BeLite, and my patient facilitator is Ruby. I think she might be new, as I haven't seen much information posted about her. Anyone have any experience with Ruby?

I have a bmi of 46+, and I am feeling excitement, fear, and impatience among other things. I hope all goes well for me.

I'm doing a video blog on YouTube. I'm not sure how to link to it, but I'll figure it out soon enough. Right now, it's time for bed....

Welcome to LapBandTalk!

The place to find info on BeLite is the "Doctors & Hospitals" section. Use the "search" function and you'll find a lot of info about them.

Greetings from Texas as well! Sounds like we are the same path! I have been researching lap-band for several months. Each year for the past 2-3 years, I have considered it, but never like I am now. My bmi is 37, but I have several comorbidities; sleep apnea, hypertension, etc. I have my first consultation scheduled for 1/29/09. My surgeon requires a psychologic and nutritional evaluations...mine are scheduled for next week. I am feeling the same emotions...excitement, fear and impatience!! Hang in there and keep reading the lapband forum, they have some great posts!!

Warmest wishes from the Lonestar State!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
