Hello, my name is Sharon and I am new at this website. I had my lapband in '07. I lost weight in the beginning but I started eating sugar again. Most meats and food make me sick and I throw them up. I would like some input on support groups in my area. I had my operation in Orange, CA and it takes me 5 hours to drive there for my check ups. So needless to say I can't make the support group meetings. I live in the Central Coast of California and would love it if I could find a support group that talks about emotions around eating. Looking forward to hearing from some of you. Thanks and LOL.

If most foods make you sick, then you're too tight and you need an unfill. I have no experience but on the other hand, I'm a "newbie" enough to remember this point that our surgeon stresses over and over...if you're too tight, "healthy" foods get stuck and "unhealthy" things like Cookies, ice cream, candy, goes through easily.

I hope you find a support group that will work for you but I think you are also too tight. Worth checking out, any way.

Please drive the 5 hours and get an unfill, ASAP. The band should not keep you from eating healthy, you are too tight. The longer you stay like that them more damage you will do to yourself.

I agree that you very well may be too tight. That being said, my story is A LOT like yours. I had my surgery in May 2007 and had not lost a dang pound, until this week when I started exercising. Now I'm down 2 pounds in 19 months - there's a sad statistic. However, I find that although I can keep "good" food down, it takes more effort on my part, meaning I have to be EXTREMELY careful when I eat meat (teeny, tiny bites, and chew until my jaw wants to give up). So, in my case, I don't believe that I'm too tight - I believe that it's easier for me to eat the wrong things, and they taste better, so I do it. Like I said, you may be too tight - or you may prefer to take the easiest route, like me, and just eat what's quick. Just a thought. good luck

If you are on the central coast in CA then you might be closer to finding a doctor in Fresno to possibly help with your fills. I am assuming it is closer since it only takes us about 2.5 hours to get to the coast from here. I have read about several support groups in the fresno area as well. You might want to check for those posts. I hope you find a solution soon for your problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
