Complete Unfill!!

Recommended Posts

So, I am 7 months out and have lost 60 pounds.... I am totally thrilled about that. But, then a few days ago, I had a tough day. Seemed everything was getting stuck. That night I had horrible reflux, which continued the next day. My chest hurt, my throat hurt, and I couldn't eat anything. Yesterday, my chest and throat were a bit better, but I still couldn't eat anything (even a shake was too much) without feeling it in my chest. So, I went to the dr today and felt I needed a complete unfill and he put me on previcid (I think - haven't picked up the scrip yet). He wants me to stay unfilled for TWO MONTHS!!

On the one hand, I almost immediatly felt better and after I ate some good protien, I felt so much better. On the other hand, I am scared to be unfilled for two months. What if I go back to my old ways. I know it took 7 months to lose that 60lbs, feeling terrified I could gain it back in 2!!

A similar situation happened to my husband just before the holidays. He had a fill that was either too much or it aggravated the esophogus so much that swelling would not allow even Water to pass though. He was unfilled and went through the holidays this way. He gained about 10 lbs but is now back on track with a good fill that is working for him.

Try to remember that your doctor wants your body to heal from the trauma. It may mean a small weight gain but you'll get back on track too. Hopefully, your doctor uses flouroscope for fills. My husband has had fills with flouro and without. He is a fan of the flouro.

I'm just beginning my lapband journey. Just had my surgery Jan. 8th.

Good luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
