Yep! You should have seen the first picture of my liver. It was a disgusting pile of goo. Only reason I saw it is because it happened to be in a picture they took of my insides for a hysterectomy.

My LapBand surgeon, Dr. Baptista, made me go on a strict diet. I won't lie and tell you it was easy. It wasn't. Was it worth it? You betcha! Dr. Baptista took a picture of my healthy much-reduced liver to give me a pat on the head after my surgery for being such a good patient. What a difference!

Yeah, it was worth it.

KSILL18 if you follow your doc's instructions it apparently shrinks "enough"

i wonder how much your liver actually shrinks during pre-op diet....

No clue, to tell you the truth, but I'd be willing to bet it's a very individualized thing.

You can start right now. I started months before I needed to do so, as soon as a bandster friend warned me. She told me to go on a very low-carb diet and stay there.

I did, and once I made the adjustments to my recipes and got into the habit of reading all the labels of all the food I shopped for, it got a lot easier. I actually enjoy the low-carb life now, and had no trouble when the doc told me to diet and keep below 30g of carbs total a day. It wasn't until I started tracking calories as well that I actually lost a lot of weight, but by then the extra care wasn't that difficult.

You can do this. Really. A little privitation now means the possibility of a lifetime of rewards later.

Yes, If you are severely overweight most likley your liver is fatty. I was just banded Jan. 5th, and my surgeon told me she couldn't tell one lobe from another, and it felt like cheese cake.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
