I started this whole procedure back in Mayof 2008. I had done ALL the pretesting and was basically waiting on the final approval for insurance...

then I lost my job...and didn't have insurance for a total of 6 months (out of work 3 months, then had a 90 day waiting period at my new job)

So I finally get insurance w/ my new job and call to get the procedure "back on the books" and am told I now have a ONE YEAR pre existing condition waiting period...

Even though I started this procedure BEFORE I lost my insurance? ?????

So now I"m going to have to go through ALL of the pretesting AGAIN at the end of this year. So sad !!!

Unfortunately, if you hadn't started the process prior to losing your insurance it probably wouldn't have been considered a pre-existing condition. Or if you had some kind of interum coverage like cobra.

Of course it would depend on how the policy words what it does and doesn't consider a pre-existing condition. Rule of thumb (at least in my state) is that if you go more than 90 days (or 180 days if you have a policy with an insurance company and your next policy is with the same insurance company, like BCBS to BCBS will give you a 6 month grace period but BCBS to cigna only lets you go 90 days) uninsured any health problems you come into the policy with are considered pre-existing and can be excluded.

You might be able to go over your policy and get around it, but it will depend on how the policy is written and the laws in your state.

Good luck!

I was out of insurance for a total of 168 days, but I had BCBS and went back to BCBS both through the companies I worked for....

Who should I contact to see if this is the case? The insurance company or the doctor's office?

This is just my guess, but I would say that you should contact your BCBS and see if they have that 6 month grace period like bjornsyouruncle stated. Or if you have your insurance packet you could maybe read through there and see if they have a grace period???? Just my 2 cents, I hope you can get them to pay for it so you dont have to wait a whole year, that would really suck:thumbdown: Good Luck, keep us posted:cool:

Your HR person might be able to give you more information, or definitely check out the paperwork you received from your insurance company (possibly a spiral bound notebook outline coverage rates and policies). You can always call them and get verification of their prexisting exclusions policy.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
