Pain has a new name

Recommended Posts

AND ITS' NAME IS RICE

What the hell is up with that--This seems to be the only food that gets stuck!!

I am not a big rice eater, but in the last week I have been in situations where I have been served rice (work functions)--I dutifully take a bite of chicken, chew the bejesus out of it, swallow it without any problems. Then I follow that up with a bite of rice. And then the pain, Oh God the pain.

I've only done this a couple of times--I am a slow learner.

Guess the starch is to much for the tummy. From what I'm gathering here, white products seem to not want to go down like others.

Lesson learned huh. (I'll have to remember that)

I was watching a commercial about the new rice in a can mixed with Kidney or what ever Beans and first thought was wow that looks like something I would want to try then I remembered your post and said no way!

Isn't it funny - I have absolutely no trouble with rice (in small quantities) which is a good thing I am a Cuban girl and we love our rice and Beans. Now on the other hand, the other day I had one of those Star Kist tuna in a pouch, which I chewed to death, ate two bites and pb'd. Go figure.

My post-op diet says rice can be difficult for 4-6 months. Something about it not going down the same as other foods. I will wait at least 6 months to test those waters.~Mandy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
