New to Site, I'm a slow loser and refuse to give up!

Recommended Posts

Hi, had my lap band done July 3, 2007. So far I have lost 57 lbs. Have not gained any back. That is a win-win to me. I am a slow loser, and would love to join your site if you don't mind. I am 56 yrs young and married, mother to 4 adults and 4 granddaughters and 1 spoiled dog.

I had an accident on my right side at work in 97, from right foot upto right hip causing a broken ankle, a totally replaced knee, and eleven years of living with chronic pain. I also suffered through rehab, alot of pt, shingles, double cataracts and defective thyroid. But I still had the surgery, and now I have been diagnosed with Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome of Right foot. Wondered why I couldn't do jumping, marching, walking or repetitive exercies. So I must go to an ortho specialist this year for another surgery. This will be the third on foot. All in all, I feel blessed. Haven't had a fill since 6/23/08 went from 313 to 256. I follow the plan well, have alot of trouble eating alot of the food items, especially Protein. I am from Jackson County, OH. Will go to Dr. Curry in Columbus, OH in Feb. Excited about this. Hate to exercise. Can't get on floor or low equipment. Have some nice exercise equipment, can't use. Would love to have the toning tables around here. No such luck. Anyone having any luck with them?

Would love to have support and buddies to share and chat with since I am a stay at home. Love to hear from others and your experiences and stories.

Hello,

I was reading your story and even though we are different, we are a lot alike. I am a very slow loser. Some people thought I shouldn't have surgery due to I wasn't 150 lbs overweight. I topped out at 215lb and I'm 5 foot with a list of problems, blood pressure, bad back, bad knees you name it. My knees will never get better due to a car accident in 2001. I can exercise however, it doesn't seems to be helping. I have stayed between 164 nd 162 which I am happy with. I haven't lost the weight the doctors thought I would by now but I'm trying. The doctors wanted me to get down to 105/110 that is not going to happen. I will be happy with 130lb which is only about 30lbs away. I feel great most of the time and I try to make the right choices. However, it's so hard at time. I just would to wish you luck and don't give up and I won't either.

Darla

I just read your post and wanted to ask you about your tarsal tunnel. What did the doctor do for it?

Thanks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
