Glad to see you posting Peek. It is because I cannot trust myself alone that I come here; I need to have others rooting for me, helping me when I lapse, kicking me in the arse when needed. If I didn't have the LBT forum, I would truly be doing it completely on my own, and as I successfully fooled myself about my weight for decades, I would just continue to do so. Coming here and seeing everyone else (to quote Jachut) shutting their gob and shaking their ass helps me to get with it.

I am hoping todays fill will be the 'push' I need; I waffled for several months about it, and then frankly finances didn't permit, but FINALLY I accepted I was worth the expense of the fill and realized I couldn't continue to lose (or stop gaining) weight without my band, so off to the big city it is for me today!

Keep posting....

How did the fill go Tap? Do you have to do liquids for a day or two? Got my fingers crossed for you that it will be just what you need to get you going strong again.

Let's see....good news/bad news. In the 3 months since I was last there (I told you it was a LONG time), I gained a pound. The good news is that it was only a pound (the clinic stats were most bandsters (over 8 months post-op) who have shown up in the cllinic since January arrived, gained 4 or 5 pounds. So, 1/4 cc fill and a new attitude should help moving that scale again. Now I really need to start working on my head hunger...

One pound is nothing. I gained 13 the last time I seen my doc. I've been losing ever since and I will probably be close to where I was when I started gaining when I see him again next month.

One pound to me could even be something as minor as the clothes you have on that day, or being a little backed up. I really wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Glad to hear you had a good fill! Hang in there.

Thanks LilMiss. I know it isn't a clothing factor - I make sure I wear the same clothes! And I know it isn't a lot of weight, but still, seeing it as a gain was disheartening as well as motivating (I'm kinda perverse that way). So, I shall see what happens over the next few days.

Don't beat yourself up. Like you said, it's one pound. Any other year I would have gained at least 10 over the holidays. This year I only gained 2 and they are already gone. One pound gain could be anything from a salty piece of ham or Soup to that time of the month. If it is consistently up for more than a day or two it might be time to take a closer look at food choices. Hang in there and keep up the good work.

By the way, back to topic, I've been around, just not posting much. I find that I don't spend nearly as much time parked in front of the computer as I used to. I'm out enjoying life. It is a great feeling.

Thanks for checking in St Louis...I am so pleased that you are enjoying life - we only get this life once, so we should make the most of it! Your weight loss stats are great...Keep it up (or down:tongue2:)!

OK, I will admit, it is harder to get on here when I am not losing. And since I haven't had a fill since last May, I haven't really been thinking about it. I am about 30 lbs until I reach my goal. But, I have gone down from a 24 to a 14/16. I am pleased, but I want to be more pleased.

Another problem is, I have a serious issue with what my body looks like. When people tell me that they can tell that I have lost weight, I can still only see me as I was before. No matter how much I have lost, I see the same girl in the mirror. I am not sure that any amount is going to make me happy.

Also, I can't seem to get enough calories in. I think that I am not losing because I am not eating. But I am not hungry. And I force myself to eat nuts and yogurt, but I am just not hungry. Any suggestions?

Hi Michele

The body issue is one I can relate to. Those people close to me say they can see how different I look, how much weight I have lost etc. But I don't. Seriously, I do NOT see a difference. I recently got a really wild funky haircut with wild highlights and thought that the jolt of seeing that would force me to see a 'new' me....it hasnt. I look in the mirror and see me - no different, and yet I have lost weight, my body measurements are different, etc. I don't know what is the matter with me.

I cannot relate to the not hungry; my issue was for months I was always hungry and trying to force myself to use only my discipline to stop mowing down everything in my path. That didn't work! I need the band to work with me, and this last fill is so far helping....but I know it is still up to me. You ae correct - eating too little in fact slows down the metabolism, and stops the weight loss. Have you tried supplementing your diet with Protein shakes and cheeses to ensure you get in the calories you need? We know that isn't the ideal solution, but you have to get in the calories, and if you don't have the appetite, then you don't stand much of consuming them.

Keep posting Michelle; that's what this group is for - to help, or Celebrate or commiserate with each other.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
