catho72 0 Posted January 14, 2009 I just can't get these shakes down... I think i have to call the nutritionist. Today I tried Lean Body and Muscle Milk... Yuck! Protein shakes are just not for me. I'm being really good about the rest of the diet, but want to make sure my liver shrinks! Does anyone know if Protein Bars affect the liver the same way as the shakes? Try the Atkins shakes...I tried both the milk chocolate and strawberry today. While I can't say I enjoyed them, I was able to tolerate them. I'm trying the vanilla tomorrow. This was easier than I had thought. I'm sure the real hunger starts tomorrow!
MacMadame 81 Posted January 14, 2009 I couldn't do any of the ready made shakes. But a lot of people like Carnation SF Instant Breakfast, EAS Mylopex, Atkins and Muscle Milk.
Jacks2009 0 Posted January 14, 2009 My doctos office did not recommend the Carnations instant breakfast? Am I am able to use to lose the weight and shrink my liver for the surgery which is 2/23? Any help much appreciated.
wushu4u 0 Posted January 14, 2009 I tried the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury today and I have to tell you, not a fan. Are you guys using Skim , 1%, 2% or whole milk for your mixes? I looked it up and Skim has more carbs than the whole milk...1g per serving...not much, but I imagine it would taste better with the whole anyway. I went to trader joes and bought some "Worldwide Pure Protein Shakes" today...lets see if they are any better...I need to get through this week.
MacMadame 81 Posted January 14, 2009 I believe you are supposed to use Water when you mix the Protein powders. I use a combo of water and ice and blend them in the blender. The ice makes the drink have the consistency of a shake.< /p>
wushu4u 0 Posted January 14, 2009 Oh, that would make them even worse!!! I can tell you the "Worldwide Pure Protein Shakes" were just aweful as well...I suppose the shake was alright, it just tasted like metal. On to the next option.
jorofan 0 Posted January 15, 2009 I can't find the sugar free carnation instant breakfast :-( You'd think in NYC it wouldn't be that hard to find. I replaced a Protein Shake today with fage 0% greek yogurt. It has 15-20 grams of Protein, 90 calories, 0 fat and 7 carbs. At least it has lots of protein and it tastes good! wushu4u 0 Posted January 15, 2009 Ok, so I know its not the best option, but I am going to try the EAS Myoplex tomorrow...there HAS to be one that tastes relatively good out there. If not I will go insane! I keep trying to tell myself this is worth it, and I have done really well today, but the headache and the bad taste in my mouth is making me wonder... MacMadame 81 Posted January 15, 2009 Oh, that would make them even worse!!! Actually, if you put in lots of ice and mix in a blender, they taste much better than when you just shake them up, whether you add milk or not. That's the only way I can take them as doing them straight upsets my stomach.
wushu4u 0 Posted January 15, 2009 I will have to try it. The Unjury chicken Soup one is alright, just make sure you follow the directions and do not add hot water...definitely messes up the texture a bit. I added a bit of cumin to it and it made it tolerable for dinner. I wish I had the diets some of the others have on here, seems like heaven right now. Day 2 starts... ms.kelley-rn 0 Posted January 16, 2009 If you can find it, try Biochem's Ultimate Protein in vanilla. I mix it with 1% milk and it taste's good. The serving size says 2 scoops but I use 1 scoop to cut down on the sugar. One scoop is 100calories, 0g fat, 5g carbs, 3g sugar, 20g protein. When you add that to 8oz of 1% milk which has 8g protein, you've go 28g protein. Biochem's 100% whey Protein comes in the same flavors and has the same amount of calories, fat, carbs and sugar in 2scoopsinstead of 1.
coloradobanding 5 Posted January 17, 2009 My pre-op diet is 100% clear liquid ! This is day 1 for me, and it's honestly not too terrible. I am going to get through the next 2 days, but it is really going to be tough! I would LOVE a Protein Shake about now...lol. Good luck to all, we can do it1:biggrin:
Rhonda53 0 Posted January 17, 2009 Today I tried Lean Body and Muscle Milk... Yuck! Protein shakes are just not for me This made me giggle...because I am sure that I will feel the same way!
jorofan 0 Posted January 18, 2009 I think after 5 days i found a shake I can stomach...well it's not exactly a shake, but it's still a drink. Odwalla has a Protein Drink that I found at the supermarket that when i put in a glass with ice it wasn't terrible. Without the ice it was still chalky, but I'm getting used to it... I'm still looking for sugar free carnation instant Breakfast. If anyone knows where in NYC it's sold please let me know. Otherwise I'm gonna order it online for after the surgery. JillBengt 0 Posted January 19, 2009 Premier Nutrition ready made Protein Drinks from costco (160 calories, 30 grams Protein, 3 grams fat). Trust me on this! I tried several different brands and I never would have made it all these weeks without Premier Nutrition! At a pre-op class, several people raved about these drinks but I didn't buy them until my friend let me try one of hers. They are NOT chalky, NOT disgusting, NOT gag-inducing. In fact, they are actually pretty tasty. And just to set the record straight...I am NOT....I repeat, NOT a fan of protein drinks. Despite that, I have soldiered through 3 of my 4 weeks on a liquid diet (1 week post-op so far) and I am still drinking three of these a day.
