Mederma on Incision Sites?

Recommended Posts

When could I start applying Mederma to my incisions? It's been about 12 days since surgery and they're healing nicely. Just a bit itchy.

Has anyone tried Mederma before? Does it work?

My doctor told me my cuts were closed and I could put Mederma on, that was after a week and a half. I have been putting neosporin on them since I took the bandages off and left it only covered by my clothing. Nobody said to do that but I had heard it helps cuts heal faster and think that it did.

Call your surgeon's office and ask! Good luck!

Ive used mederma with great results. I had port replacement back in october and used it on that area in hopes of getting that scar to fade. I swear with in two weeks you were not even able to tell that area had been tampered with.

At my two week check, I was told I could start using aloe or Vitamin D on my incisions if they felt itchy. I had a great moisturizer that has both ingredients, and that's what I used. My main concern would be an allergic reaction. Personally, I would test any product on another area before putting it on an incision.

I had gallbladder surgery 4/07 and I used a green tea scar minimizer and when I went to my surgeon for the lap-band she was impressed with the scars. They are very minimal and can hardly be seen. So I am sure the Mederma would work the same way. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
