So I am 19 almost 20 I have a 5 month old son and a wonderful boyfriend.. I want the lap band SO BAD! I have always been a chubby girl but after I went to college I ballooned to 240 and now after giving birth and gaining 60 lbs while prego I now weigh 256 lbs its a terrible feeling like I said I have always been chubby but now I can feel it starting to affect my health.. I cant get around as easy I'm so much more lazy I have a hard time breathing and I just feel completely uncomfortable in my OWN skin.. I attend the first step at my hospital which is the seminar on Thursday and I have my appt on Feb 9th for consultation! I'm so excited and PRAY I get approved.. I just have a few questions abou the lap band.. the lady at the seminar said that I wont be able to drink caffine or alchol.. which I am fine with but I am not fine with NEVER EVER being able to EVER drink it again.. so that is one of my questions and my second question is.. does the lap band ever get removed or is it something I will have for the rest of my life? and my 3rd question is.. I know that the weight comes off slowly but will I ever be able to lose about 100 lbs I'd like to loose a little more then that but would be fine with 100 Thanks everyone

I have no idea why alcohol would play any part in being banded. I have several banded friends that have a drink or a few drinks occasionally. We are not supposed to have carbonation though, so that leaves out beer.

The lap band does not get removed unless you are having problems with it.

There are quite a few people on this board that have lost over 100 lbs. You should go to the before and after pictures. They are pretty inspiring.

How much weight you lose will depend on how you eat. The band will not help with candy, Cookies, ice cream, and chips. those seem to be foods that slip right through the band without any trouble.

A lot of people say "if I could diet, why would I need the band?" The reason is, the band will restrict your portion sizes and if you eat healthy foods, meat veggies and some fruit, you should lose weight. The band is not a magic cure. You have to do your part.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
