tbryant1216 0 Posted January 11, 2009 Hello, I am seriously considering having the Lap Band Surgery. I go to a seminar on January 20th to get more info. I stumbled across this site and I LOVE it. There is so much great info here. I have an office job and I was wondering how long it would take to get back to work. I have heard that it is about 1-2 weeks. Also, how long is the hospital stay? I'm sure I will learn all this info at the seminar, but I can't wait that long. :tongue2: Thanks, tbryant1216
Rosemary1979 0 Posted January 11, 2009 The time that people take off from work is always different. For me I had the surgery on Dec 23 and was back at work on the 26th. I probably would have been better off if I had waited until the 29th. I was just really tired, if we had been busy (I work at a bank) I would have been in trouble. The key for me was to keep walking as much as possible. If I am ever in pain or feeling to tired walking really the key. The nurses had told me that walking would help but I did not think that it could make such a big difference.
TQUAD64 9 Posted January 11, 2009 Well each person's recovery time is so different, but I took two-weeks vacation time. And I am so glad that I did. By day 7-post op I was feeling great. I began driving and shopping that day, but the liquid diet left me feeling weak, so I am glad I took two weeks off and was on mushies by the time I went to work. When I did go back to my desk job, I felt energizes and ready to go. As far as how many days in the hospital, my doctor requires an over night stay, but because I had some complications, I stayed 2.5 days. I am doing great now! phan35mel 0 Posted January 11, 2009 hi I just had the lapband done on jan 6th. I was told about 2 weeks for a return to work. My hospital stay was just one night then I was home by noon the next day. I can tell you I have struggled with every diet imaginable. This is definately a great tool to help me get on the right track. I am on straight Clear Liquids now yet I do not fell hungry one bit. I was able to walk out of the hospital. Just a little sore but feeling better every day. I hope this helps anymore questions feel free. good luck :tongue2:
KarenFY09 0 Posted January 11, 2009 I had my surgery on a thursday and returned to work the nex tuesday. I wish I had taken a week off. My incisions felt ok, but I had shoulder pain from the surgery gas and it was hard to concentrate. I felt pretty good after 6 days and decided I could drive. That was a mistake too. It was very uncomfortable turning corners, I felt a pulling on my incisions. I stayed one night in the hospital because my surgeon requests that of all his lapband patients. Many people go home the same day.
MissBS 3 Posted January 11, 2009 Hi. I felt good after 7 days and almost great after 10. I went in at 8, had my surgery about noon, and left the surgery center about 2. I felt pretty good and did not want to stay overnight, which was fine with my doctor. Some doctors require an overnight stay. I was close enough that if any complications had come up, I could have gotten treatment quickly, but I did fine. Everyone is different and so are recovery times. It also makes a difference what kind of job you have. I wanted to get up and move around - laying around was ok for a day or two, but then I felt better when I was moving/walking. Good luck to you!!! punkin61 0 Posted January 11, 2009 I had my surgery on 12/09/08 and was out of work for 9 days. My surgeon recommended at least 1 week, glad I took a few more days because I do alot of sitting and standing n my job. Had to stay overnight in the hospital and had no problems when I went home except finding the easiest way to get out of bed cause if you just jump up and not hold your abdoment, it hurts like he!!.:tongue2:
Losing 2 0 Posted January 11, 2009 I too took a 2 week vacation and by day 7 felt very good. Was out at Walmart walking. And yes, walking, walking made a huge difference, everytime I felt pain (along with liquid tylenol). I feel awesome and feel like a new person; when I try on clothing now, I feel like I should have done this 5 years ago! Best of luck to you!
gulfbeachgal 0 Posted January 12, 2009 I took off 5 days, and I was fine going back. Just a little sore from gas pains in my shoulder. They said if you keep active, and walk it will heal you better than just sittting around. I also got up that evening in the hospital and walked as soon as I felt decent. You are better off walking then lying down a lot. Good Luck
