Am I too tight? Or give it time?

Recommended Posts

I got filled on Friday and I've done 48 hours of liquids. It took me a long time to get my Protein Shake down this morning, but it was ok. Tried introducing some mushies today. Didn't go so well. I had five small bites of greek yogurt. All of the sudden, major slime, chest pain, then threw up the yogurt. Should I give it some time? Or get unfilled a little. Am definitely going to call the surgeon tomorrow, but thought I'd see if this is normal after a fill with good restriction.

Yes, it sounds like you're too tight. Yogurt should go down without feeling "stuck." You might not be able to eat much at a time, but it shouldn't get stuck.

Greek yogur tis very thick, so in the morning you might have trouble with it. I find there are days I am fine with it and others I can only manage a few bites. No trouble with regular yogurt, but my favorite Greek Yogurt is hit or miss in the AM.

what size band do you have, and how many cc do you have in it? I think you need a slight unfill, I giving you advice and I need to listen to it myself. I had fill dec 13th and am sooooo tight from dec 13 to dec 29 I lost 15 pounds. where can I but greek yogurt and what's your favorite flavor? I see a lot of peopk talking about on here I just have never seen it in the store

Definitely call your doctor, if it's too tight there's a big risk of pouch prolapse if you nurse it along. Even a tiny bit of Fluid can make all the difference in having good restriction and risking problems from having it too tight.

liquids should go down easily without backing up at all, and yogurt is practically liquid so even the thick kind should go through pretty quickly.

since being banded, l can not eat yogurt, no matter how slowly or what type or brand..l think its to sticky for me...same with any sort of ice cream..(thank goodness)..l think it just globs onto my band and closes it off

Thanks...I'm thinking I'll call the doc in the morning and go in to get a little unfilled.

There are a few brands of Greek Yogurt. They carry them at my grocery store and Trader Joe's. I get Faje brand plain and add flavoring. It has a lot of Protein.< /p>

Sounds like your too tight. I would go in for a slight unfil. I never would recommend keeping a fill that was making someone vomit. It's best to play it safe.

I agree Greek Yogurt is thick,I just got a fill too and can not get the yogurt down but I am fine with scrambled eggs and ww toast

so I would not base my decision on just the Greek Yogurt.I am gonna give it some time myself as I can still tolerate alot of different things.Oatmeal, eggs, toast,Soy Crisps, tuna, egg salad. My Protein

drinks go down slow too but I love to add ice and whip them thick,I am sure in a week as it get looser I will be fine as I do not throw up or PB if I go slow and chew well, this fill will definitely teach me the rules and make me stick with them.

I agree. I had my third fill on December 18th and was VERY tight. I had problems IF I did not take TINY bites, chew LOTS, and eat VERY slowly. Lots of PBing!! It has been a little over 3 weeks now and I am feeling much better. I can eat most things but boy do I have to follow the rules. MY BAND HAS SPOKEN. I was going to go and get an unfill, but decided to wait. I was able to keep liquids down and did ok on mushies. Now I am back to eating solid Proteins. I am not as hungry, feel full quicker and longer, and I'm so glad I waited. If you are having problems keeping liquids down, I would go get an unfill for sure. Good luck to you. Becky

The liquids stay down, but I get a LOT of gurgling and what I would call air bubbles coming up and making noise in my throat. I am trying some Soup now that things have settled down and it is gurgling a lot too. I'm definitely calling the doc in the morning, I just hope he doesn't take too much out! I NEEDED the restriction. I could eat almost anything i wanted to last week!

I am having the same problems. I had my second fill on Monday 1/5 and still today I am having the gurgling and burps in my throat with liquids. Even with taking small small sips. I have noticed that I am much more tight in the morning and by lunch time I am lossening up, but still having a hard time with mushies. I only had .2cc's put in on my adjustment. I have a 10cc band and have 7.8 total in it now. I am just wondering if I should call my surgeons office?

Help.

Thanks,

AmandaJene

I was in the same boat, went from too loose to way too tight. I thought I could nurse it along with liquids and as I lost a little it would loosen up. I lost 8 pounds in a week, but it got worse instead of better and when I finally gave in and went back, the barium swallow showed the liquid just barely dripping through the band and my upper pouch starting to look dilated. They took out half my Fluid for 2 weeks and after that the second barium showed all was well. Most of that weight came back which upset me greatly but she said it wasn't true loss in the first place, it was starvation basicly and my body was grabbing it back. I was very lucky no damage was done and I sure learned my lesson about being too tight!

If you're having trouble with mushies (including greek yogurt), you're too tight. Remember, being too tight often leads people to make poor food choices...one cannot live on milkshakes alone. Over time, you'll either slip into bad habits or your band will slip...neither is good. You have to work with the band...it doesn't work if you're only able to keep down liquids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
