February '09 bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Feb 13th, and I feel 100% back to normal. I still feel my port some, but no more gas pains, no more sore incisions, I still have good restriction as far as portions, already down 35lbs. I promise you all it gets better from here. Good luck!

I had the worst of left shoulder pain today. I hardly have had any up until today. It passed pretty quickly with stretching and I had my husband "knock" on the area to help move or break it up. I cannot stop burping. I burp loudly all the time with no matter what liquid I take. I have been blending Soups that really hold down my hunger for hours. Today I made a potato cheese and chicken Soup. Blended it up and drank about a cup which kept me full for nearly 4 hours. I hope that continues to be the case. I am not getting enough water:frown:. That is the hard part for me.

I don't know how I missed this! I was banded on 2/19. I have been reading some of the posts and the difference in approaches is amazing. My doctor wants me on a modified liquid diet and not working until March 12. I am supposed to drink 2 oz. of Protein Shake on the hour and 2 oz. of clear liquid every 15 minutes. I am starving!!!! With all liquids, it is my understanding there is no restriction. aLso, I have already started back to work. I feel great! There is no soreness, energy loss, or pain, I am amazed. I have lost 10 pounds so far but I don't know how long I can stay on all liquids without giving in solid food, or even something mushie for that matter. Whatever, I am determined to do what the doctor says. After reading some of the posts though, I may try to call tomorrow to see what I can do about the nagging hunger pains:drool:

I have been doing really well so far, I have my post op diet and I understand what the purpose of it is. That being said, I am using it as a guideline rather than a hard and fast rule.

I am also listening to my body and doing what feels right. I ended up adding Protein Shakes and carnation instant breakfasts into my liquid diet 1 week after surgery. Those were keeping me pretty full until the end of last week. I started getting hungry more quickly between "meals" so I decided to try some pre-made creamy Soups. They went down fine and a cup would hold me longer than a Protein Shake. Yesterday I had some scrambled egg and it was fine too. My husband shared a couple of tiny bites of steak (the size of my pinkie nail) with me last night and they were most yummy.

Foods with a bit more cohesion to them (a step up from liquid) are staying me longer than liquids now. I attribute that to the swelling having gone down. If I stayed on a liquid diet, I would be taking in more calories than I am eating the softer foods. So, it is a no brainer for me to step it up a little as long as it is going down OK.

Tomorrow will be the start of what my post op diet is calling the pureed stage (two weeks post op). For the most part Iwill be following it. I will be eating scrambled eggs, yogurt and mashed potatoes among other things. If I start getting hungry, I will move up to mushy foods.

I keep in mind that those diets are written boilerplate and do not take into account individuals and their bodies. I find I fare better if I listen to my body.

I had the pain for the first 3-4 days, then it seemed to go away for 2 days then came back for 1 day. When it did come back it was right after I drank something heavier than Water or juice, esp if it was more than I should have drank. I am 12 days out now and it is totally gone.

My dr said it is actually referred pain rather than actual pain in the shoulder. He said the gas is actually in the diaphragm between the abdominal cavity and the chest cavity. When the stomach swells up from too much liquid it presses on the gas which irritates the nerves, those nerve endings though terminate in the shoulder rather than in the diaphragm hence the pain "in" the shoulder.

I had my surgery on the 24th and i'm feeling pretty good. The only incision that hurt was the port site but even that one is tolerable now. I'm supposed to stay on liquids for 2 weeks post op. I noticed some of you guys were allowed mashed potatoes or yogurt on your post op diets. How have you tolerated that. I'm starving and don't wanna screw up and go nuts eating crap cuz I'm so hungry . I'm so sick of liquids a yogurt would seem like a steak right now!

Hi, Just under two weeks to my surgery (got banned on 18th Feb) I have lost 20 odd pounds from the start of my liquid diet (pre-op).

My worry is I have already reached a plateau.

Still consuming thick liquids, My weight has not moved for the last 5 days?

Worried!!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
