February '09 bandsters?

Recommended Posts

hello everyone,

well, it is DONE!

I am now officially a bandster.

Surgery went well, waking up was hard (I wanted to stay asleep!) but got better as the anesthesia wore off. Had a few small cups of Water, got dressed, and went home. Went immediately to bed where I slept for hours before getting up to take some pain pills. Like many others, I do have pain around the port area (especially when I bend over or otherwise use those muscles). No gas pains, thankfully!! I am off work for the rest of the week and plan to just take it easy while I mend.

Congratulations!!! I have my surgery TODAY!!! I check in at 0930 so I am up early. I am too excited and nervous to sleep. Wish me luck and Thumbs up to all of us !!!!!!!:biggrin::thumbup:

oh I hope it all went well for you!!

don't be too discouraged if you are sore in a couple days- it will get better, really!!

let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it!

:tongue2:

congrats! so overall it was not that bad it sounds. good for you!

Ha! I know just how you feel. I almost felt like I was walking through a dream while going through this whole process. Even now I have to stop and think that all of the 'build-up' is over, I have the band, and now a whole new process is beginning!

Honestly the worst part so far has been pain around the port, which makes it difficult to move around quickly, or contract my abdomen without pain. On a happy note, I just did 20 minutes on the treadmill, and feel pretty good aside from that one thing. And I know that will fade in a few days, so it is bearable.

You'll see for yourself quite soon, good luck!!

This morning I am sitting here at the computer (not for much longer though, since it is a little uncomfortable!) drinking a cup of Decaf green tea, and looking forward to my first cup of broth!

My message to all of you 'Fab Febs' (that is the name I'm calling myself!) is to stay motivated, stay focused, and stay positive! Yes, this is really happening, and it is a good thing.

take care of yourselves and get ready for this fabulous new chapter in your lives.

I am soooo happy for you!! Thank you for sharing I go in tomorrow morning at the same place as you so I'm not as nervous !! I have to be there at 7:30 originally it was 8:00 but they called today and want me there early., which isn't a big deal since I live like 3 miinutes away. I am so nervous about the anesthesia that's the scariest part for me so I hope I don't freak out too bad once I get there. I'll let you know how it goes!

bigbarry1...we share the date! Don't panic about the anesthesia. They will give you some form of what I like to call "happy medecine" before you even get to the anesthesia. You will be very nice and relaxed, and probably will not even remember the surgeon administering the anesthesia.

The only thing I worry about with anesthesia is my big old mouth. I had to have surgery a few years ago, and I had my Mom with me for support. She said after the nurse gave me the relaxation meds, that I never stopped talking. Apparently I spilled my guts about the last time I had gone out with my girlfriends for a night of dancing, and did the surgeons know how to dance?! Hopefully I did not say anythingtoo inappropriate. If I did, my Mom has been kind and not told me, lol.

Good luck on Monday! I will be looking to hear from you a few days after surgery.

I'll be banded on the 9th. I'm beginning to get nervous. It's been a long journey with all the testing and appointments. I'm on my pre-op diet now and I'm becoming addicted to Slim-Fast chocolate shakes. I hope it's not a long time before I can eat REAL food.< /p>

I am also scared about anesthesia but i really hope not to have a panic attack on the way to the O R Big day Feb 9 th

That's what I'm afraid of too!! Hopefully they will give me a little something extra to "relax"! I don't want to look like a moron having a panic attack in the OR!

hello fellow band members, i was banded monday, feb,2nd. i too have "port pain" . maybe they could invent a better way to do that. i would feel wonderful if the port pain were gone. anyone know how long it lasts? i would love to know . i would even count the days. hugs to all my fellow band members.

Good luck girl!

I hope you have a speedy recovery!

I was nervous about the anesthesia too, since I'd never had surgery before, but it wasn't that bad after all. Going home I was pretty 'out of it', and slept most of the way (about 15 minutes to the pharmacy, where I slept in the parking lot while DH went in and got my script filled, then 1 minute to home) oblivious to anything going on around me!

If your recovery is like mine, you will probably be slightly sore the day after, worse the following day, and then back down a bit on the third day. This morning I am 3 days post-op and notice that the port pain is down slightly from yesterday. Coughing is still uncomfortable, but overall things are improving.

Can't wait to hear your story when you feel up to typing it!

smile!

I think I read on here that those who use the Realize Band VS. the Lap Band have much less port pain because the port is "stapled" on instead of sutured. Is that true?? Or am I making things up in my head again??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
