derbin247 0 Posted February 4, 2009 Yes I originally had an HMO and began the process last April but I got denied twice. My doctor never told me what I needed to do to get approval. Finally in August he said to me, if you had a PPO, you could just go... so I waited for open enrollment which came in November and I switched to PPO, called my surgeon and began the process. I too was done with all the pre op testing immediately! So now I am waiting until the 25th! I have been overweight my whole life too and I am dying to just wear a pair of shorts. I do have this fear that it may not work for me because nothing else has...jenny craig twice, weight watchers twice, Atkins, etc..
TooMuchMe 0 Posted February 4, 2009 :cursing: Well, I am scheduled for February 12th!!!! Do the Feb Bandsters have a cool name yet???
owhynot 0 Posted February 4, 2009 hello everyone, well, it is DONE! I am now officially a bandster. Surgery went well, waking up was hard (I wanted to stay asleep!) but got better as the anesthesia wore off. Had a few small cups of Water, got dressed, and went home. Went immediately to bed where I slept for hours before getting up to take some pain pills. Like many others, I do have pain around the port area (especially when I bend over or otherwise use those muscles). No gas pains, thankfully!! I am off work for the rest of the week and plan to just take it easy while I mend. This morning I am sitting here at the computer (not for much longer though, since it is a little uncomfortable!) drinking a cup of Decaf green tea, and looking forward to my first cup of broth! My message to all of you 'Fab Febs' (that is the name I'm calling myself!) is to stay motivated, stay focused, and stay positive! Yes, this is really happening, and it is a good thing. take care of yourselves and get ready for this fabulous new chapter in your lives.

JayinMA 1 Posted February 4, 2009 My surgery was postponed. It was supposed to be today but the snow storm kept the surgeon out of town for longer than he anticipated, so I have a new date of feb 11th.

ichthyology 0 Posted February 5, 2009 I officially started my pre-op liquid diet today. I actually started on Saturday, but had to eat a real lunch and dinner yesterday. I am meeting with the surgeon tomorrow for the last time before the surgery which is on the 18th of Feb. Not sure what lapband he will use but will find out tomorrow. I am looking forward to the new me and the energy I will have for my grandchildren..... Good luck to all those who have been and will be banded this month. owhynot 0 Posted February 5, 2009 Hello everyone, here is an update- While I seem to have escaped the dreaded gas pain, I have to admit that the area around my port is pretty sore. Since it seems to be a fairly common part of this surgery I am not freaking out, just waiting for it to pass. I'm able to drink my Water and broth without any difficulty, and even sometimes feel hungry! Sitting upright is still uncomfortable, but leaning back a bit takes pressure off the port. I should probably take a shower today, but I'm afraid to try and climb into our claw-foot tub by myself! DH is off to work, so I'll wait for him to come home before giving that a try, just in case. So, that is the latest! Good luck to all of you with your surgeries and recoveries!! :bananalama:

blklab70 1 Posted February 5, 2009 4david, I like the Atkins shakes. They keep me full till lunch or dinner. I use them twice a day. I was talking with a man at my doctors office yesterday and he likes the Protein Shakes from GNC. Says they have 20g of Protein and taste good. I am going to buy some this weekend. I had pre-opp yesteday and go for surgery on the 10th. No pre-opp diet although I decided to go on the Protein Drinks for Breakfast and lunch a couple of weeks ago on my own. I have lost 16 pounds! Best of luck to you.
