Hello my fellow Fab Feb Banders (he he he) I am scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2 in Chico. I start my pre-op liquid diet this Friday and also do the pre-op testing. I need to go shopping for all the 'supplies' - chewable vitamins, Protein Drinks, crystal light, etc. I better get busy, February 2 is approaching fast!!

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all doing well on your pre-op diet and preparations....!!!!

I am on day three of the pre-op diet, and it is a little difficult to keep myself from being hungry! The three Protein Shakes help, and of course I get one meal (the components of which I can spread over the course of the day, thank goodness) that is basically low-carb and low-fat.

Last night I attended one of the post-op support groups that I had joined before (attendance at one session is required before meeting with the surgeon) and it was very helpful to share my nervousness with others, and to hear their reassurances and encouragement!

Good luck to everyone who is on this journey with me!

Is anyone else excited about being able to wear shorts this summer, instead of capris?????!!!!!!

go fab febs!!

Yes, I'm having Lap Band surgery on Feb. 9. My testing begins next week with the dreaded endoscopy

I've been attending lap band and weight loss groups since last summer and find them very helpful.

Any advice as I'm less than three weeks away from my date?

I'm interested in the surgery day experience and in how quickly I will notice any benefits.

DM

You are so lucky to be having it on the NHS, I'm really pleased for you, my op is on the 13th Feb in belgium, I cannot afford to fund it in UK, and my doctor does'nt even help with diets, pills, or anything else, she's overweight herself and just says to cut down what you eat, (as if that rocket science) so I'm flighing from heathrow on the 12th. I have'nt been given a pre op diet, but reading on this forum that everyone else is I have chosen to go on protien shakes and have 1 low fat meal a day - if I can stay on it - . Good luck with yours. Its so good to hear that someone at least is having the help without having to fight for it to much, good for you, I wish you all the best, and will stay it touch to hear you progress.

What do I have to do to get one of those ticker things easy instructions please I'm useless on computer, and help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi. I'm having my physical on Thursday. I guess the physical is like any other physical, pap, blood work, etc. In addition to this I guess my doctor also wants a pulmonary function test and a chest x-ray. I'm looking at my check list here and it seems like there's more that he could have ordered to be done but did not - such as EKG and a cardiac echo.

Hope this helps you out.

Welcome!

As with everything else, there seem to be some differences in the pre surgery requirements that we are each going through.

My pre-op testing took place last week, although blood work had been done weeks before. My abdominal ultrasound was done early last year when I originally started the authorization process. I got spooked shortly after doing the ultrasound, and took a few months to make sure I was ready for the lapband. Once I decided I was, the process picked up again.

Anyway, at my pre-op appointment they took weight, blood pressure, did an EKG, and had me meet with the general nurse and anesthesia nurse too. Gave me final instructions about facility location, and surgery morning prep, and took the name of the person driving me home. (The facility I'm going to does banding on an outpatient basis, so I am not planning on spending the night) I don't have sleep apnea, so did not have to do a sleep study. Since I completed psych and nutritionist appointments months ago, as far as I know all preparations are DONE. I am now doing my best with the pre-op diet, waiting for the big day next week!

Even so, I can totally relate to how Miss Scare and others are feeling about not daring to believe this is actually happening! I talk about it, prepare for it, and keep putting one foot in front of the other to stay on the path. Reading the posts of everyone who has gone down it before me, or who are walking with me now, has really been a tremendous help. I look forward to sharing your successes with you!!

OK! SO! The lady who does the authorizations called me yesterday and said that I needed to fax her my psyche evaluation and once I did that she would send in my packet for authorization. Of course I went straight to Kinkos and faxed it immediately.

Please keep for your fingers crossed for me that I will get authorization! She said it will take about two weeks to find out. I know that some of you said that you looked on the insurance website and could see when your authorizations were sent through... where do I look? I looked on my insurance account online and did not see anything about authorizations... well anyways... this is what it all comes down too...

Hopefully I will get authorized so I can be a February bandster!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
