6 month weight loss BCBS

Recommended Posts

I have all my six month appts for my monitored weight loss set up. The first appt was Dec. the last is May. I am now hearing that they will only count this as 5 months. The first appt actually counts as your initial weigh in with your doctor and not as a month of weight loss. Has anyone had this problem. I have BCBS NJ. I just want to have everything right before it is submitted. I want to be approved the first time around.

I have bcbs of Il and your first appt. is considered day 0. You have to have 7 appts. You better not miss a month either or you will have to start all over again.

I had the same issue with the same insurance company. I started seeing the nutritionist January 2008. I had to go visit her or my doctor once a month. And I did go every month, so in my mind I thought I would be done by June 2008. However, they wanted me to go until July 2008, which to me is 7-months.

Anyway, I still go to the nutritionist and I did have the surgery. Good luck!

It was my experience that if you dot your i's and cross your t's with BC BS you will have NO problems. You can't send them too much information and yes make sure you weigh in 6 consecutive months. The last thing you want is to only do 5 and have to start all over again. I was where you are 7 months ago and I know this may sound foolish, but these 6 months will go fast and you can't do too much research into your procedure. At first I was mad that they were making me jump thru hoops, but am now greatful that they made me wait. I now know I am doing this for the right reasons and I am very prepared for my future with the lap band. Good luck! Oh yea, they approved me in 2 days! k.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
