Hey Guys!

More questions from me! A few people mentioned to me that during the surgery they pump some gas into your abdomen to make the surgery easier. They also said that you are bloated for a couple of weeks and your stomach is distended. Just wondering how bad it is because a few days after I have a birthday dinner which I have a lovely dress and worried it wont be as lovely as i had planned! Any experiences would be muchly appreciated!

hi,

I haven't had any bloating problems at all, but burping isn't as easy as it was. Having said that, my friend did have bloating/gas issues after her op and she took some tablets called 'DeGas' and they fixed it straight away.

I'm still a bit swollen on my left side, but i wouldn't call it 'distended' and it is getting less swollen every day.

Hope this helps

Megs

I was never "distended" and I don't think I was visibly bloated really. Take the degas and peppermint tea if u can stomach it. Think about this with regards to the dress-preop diet of optiyuck I lost 10kgs so a little bloating would have been unnoticed.!! Good luck and have a great birthday-best present you can give yourself...

I had terrible gas pains after the op. I had a terrible night in the hospital with pains right up to my shoulder blades. I phoned my nurse and she said I had more pain than most people normally get. Murphy's Law again!!!

I took Nurofen Plus and DeGas and the next day started to feel a lot better.

My tummy is still sore and swollen and bruised but it's only been 4 days. The weight is falling off me which is fantastic.

I was banded on Wednesday and today I am still very bloated and gassy, and my stomach is distended. I look bigger then before the surgery! It went down a little between yesterday and today, but not much. My skin doesn't feel like my own.

I have tried degas and it worked a little bit, but I am still very bloated and uncomfortable.

But don't let me turn you negative! Everyone seems to have different side effects.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
