Does anyone know if taking alka seltzer with a chest decongestion agent will cause me problems because of the bubbling action. Any thing with carbonation is off limits so I'm wonder about this. I already took a 4 hour dose in the liquid form since I can't swallow the mucinez pills. I'm thinking will I have pain because the bubbles might expand my pouch?

OMG on new years I decided I would have a tiny little sip of sparkling cider...I thought my pouch was going to explode! It hurt so so bad. I am never touching anything with bubbles again!!! I'm not sure how the fizzies will work, but I'm not going to try it lol good luck!

The guaifenesin in mucinex thins your secretions, making it easier to cough them up and kind of "preventing" congestion. It isn't a traditional decongestant. It won't interact with your band. Furthermore, traditional decongestants (which cause vasoconstriction and can increase your blood pressure) shouldn't impact the band.

Carbonation does mess with us once we're banded, as you know. Depending on which mucinex you take (they have different formulations now) you should be ok, but an "alka seltzer" type cold rememdy would probably not be your best choice.

well I survived but I won't do that anymore. OMG I didn't even think about the bubbles until it was too late. And it was too late. No alka seltzer isn't a good choice. But I lived to learn that lesson.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
