how do you deal with temptation?

Recommended Posts

If you are still on mushies or soft foods, I would pre-pack my own food.

If you are on regular food, just eat but eat light. Your band will stop you.

I eat everything my family does, just smaller amounts. I have found that I don't have to deprive myself of anything this way. I have had cake, pizza, all sorts of "junk". I even had taquito's with chips and salsa tonight. I have had chips and salsa the past 4 nights actually. My hubby made a huge mess of salsa and I love it. I have lost 3.2 pounds since Monday. I just don't eat a lot. I eat what would be a smaller than normal portion and stop there.

I stay right around 1200-1500 calories per day. I eat over 50 grams of Protein per day and do not eat carbs with every meal although I do not really count my carbs. This seems to work for me although it may not work for everyone.

My son's third birthday party is next Sunday. We are actully taking him out to dinner tomorrow for his actual birthday but the restaurant is not my concern (I already know what I am going to order). For his party we are doing pizza and wings. And of course there will be chips and dip. How do you fight off temptation? This will be my first "big event" with food and the band and I am looking for tips on how you avoid the evils. That was always my biggest problem, if I see food, I eat it. I dont want to follow the same path and I am trying to mentally prepare myself for next weekend.

When I know I have a group event evolving food, I plan ahead. At my job we are always having food socials or lunch socials, so I drink a Protein Bullet about 45 minutes before the event with Water. It feels me up, so I eat less at these food social activities.

When I am at lunch socials at a restaurant, I have the Soup or order an appetizer. When I am at work for a food social, I put a little bit of food on my plate. I have noticed that no one is paying attention to what I am eating, because we are all busy engaging in conversations. It has been a non-issue for me.

There are times when I do give into tempting foods. I do not deprive myself. I just take smaller portions and increase my exercise for that day.

I have to admit I am horrible with temptation. I am craving everything with sugar and salt in it lately. I can tolerate some and then definitely know when I go overboard, my tummy lets me know. I need to learn temptation to help my tool help me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
