Question - Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I just got banded Wednesday, July 27. This afternoon, I noticed my stomach was very swollen and hard, like when I was pregnant.

I know I've been swollen all week, but it feels different.. Hard. Is this normal? I don't have any additional pain, just the same discomfort that I've had. If anything, I am feeling better today.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal.

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks,

KarenA

Hi Karen,

I was banded in May. My stomach felt hard for a few days. It was quite uncomfortable. There's so many strange things that happen after surgery. I couldn't figure out what was normal & what wasn't. The main thing my doc was concerned about was vomiting. That's the thing that may hurt your band. So, unless you're vomiting, I wouldn't worry too much. In a week or two you should feel pretty "normal" again. Whatever your norm is anyway.

Congrats on your banding!

Guest Oh Happy Day:-)

Hello :-)

I was banded the 28th and I feel the same way. Feels pretty much like I am about 8 months pregnant or so. I am assuming that this feeling will go away soon. I am still pretty sore when I move around - but am pretty much functioning through the day as normal.

Amy

My stomach was very hard, especially around the port area. I was very concerned. But after about 1 week or so it started to soften . Now i am just almost 2 months out & its back to its flabby self;0)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
