I just dont get insurance companys, I really dont!

If something is not covered, not a covered benefit in the policy even, you'd think insurance wouldnt pay anything to that claim? WRONG! My primary insurance said no way for my surgery. Well, I had to submit stuff to it since it's primiary and they paid almost 85% of it! It says I owe about $4,500 but thats where my secondary insurance kicks in and covers that part (since it was approved thru secondary insurance only)! I just dont get insurance companies. Seriously. They said it's not covered under my policy and yet they paid 85% or so of the claim! dunno.gif After all this fighting for 1 month to get things in order for surgery (since my primary & secondary insurance both switched on 12/1 and the original insurance denied the appeal) and to find out that insurance would have paid this much to the claim (even though it's not a covered benefit and excluded from my policy), and to think if my secondary insurance did not approve the surgery I was going to go as a self-pay for $16,400! OMG what was I thinking?!?!

Yeah it's weird huh? You know what I found hilarious? My insurance wouldn't cover seeing a nutritionist but is covers the surgery and nutritionists that come with the program.

Silly huh?:grouphug:

I am glad it worked out for you! Good luck on your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
