Banded on 1/7/09-SO TIRED

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I found this site right before my surgery. I was banded wed. I am so tired. It seems like between trying to get all my fluids/proteins in(which I am not) I'm getting almost 1/2. I'm just tired,no energy. Very sore,I feel like I just had a baby. Has anyone felt like this. I've had alot of gas in my chest and shoulders. But I just can't believe how tired I am. My husband ask me this morning if I had any regrets. My reply was this will pass. I'm walking to try to get the gas to pass everytime I get up. I'm taking all my Vitamins. Can I do anything else to try not to be so tired. Thanks,M

I know what you mean. I stayed tired for about 3 good weeks. After that I slowly got back to normal. Just take you time and you will be ok. I didnt get my liquids in either and most people dont. You can do this!

It will pass. Hang in there. I felt human on day 7-post op. That is when I was energized, shopping, and driving.

Right now just rest and heal.

Good luck!

Please try to be a little more active if you can! It prevents clots and is good for your lungs, etc. The pain meds can make you draggy, of course, and you did just have surgery. But if you lie around and sleep too much you're not really doing yourself any favors. Walking helps with the gas but also circulation etc (you'll heal faster) and also moving around will help you heal better...less risk of adhesions etc.

I found liquid tylenol worked as well, or better, for me than the prescription pain med, especially when I coupled that with a pillow over my abdomen. Ice packs may help a lot, too. (heat can dissolve stitches). DON"T take liquid tylenol if you're taking lortab or some other opiate that has acetaminophen in it though (if in doubt, call your pharmacy)

It'll pass and the more you move around, the more energy you'll have and the better you'll feel.

It's not surprising you'd be tired 2 days after surgery.

This is day 9 for me, and today I finally feel pretty good. Every day gets better.

You'll be able to take liquid meals easier, but don't forget the Water. The gas is still a problem for me but much more manageable now.

The pain meds you take may be making you feel groggy. I used them for bedtime only and that helped me get around more by day.

As RM said, walk.

I had my banding on 12/15/08, with a hernia repair at the same time. Be patient it will get better, just keep on walking but don't over do it. Give your body time to recoupe. and let it adjust to your new lifestyle. If you are taking Multi Vitamins and protien drinks your on your way. Keep your spirits up and keep going foreward.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
