Elastic band around mid section

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me if they woke up after surgery with an elastic band around their mid section. I had one on after my gall bladder surgery this past summer. I am getting banded January 16th, getting very nervous. The elastic band helped a great deal with pain etc. I may bring my old band to wear home which might help with the bumpy roads..........Jan

I didn't but I can see how it would be helpful! Take it if you want; if it's contraindicated they can tell you. I just used a pillow. Good luck!

At my pre-op visit, I was told that I would have one, and that it did help in the hospital and some people also used it once they get home.

Interesting, I never heard of it before. I received a coughing bear to hold on my tummy for coughs and the long bumpy ride home.

I had a wide binder on - it was wonderful. I think I was supposed to wear it for a week, but I wore it for longer. It made such a difference in the level of pain! My sister just had her gall bladder out in Sept, and was in a lot of pain, so I gave her my binder. She said it helped a lot.

I was not given a binder initially. After about a week, my port area hurt so bad, I went back to the doc. He then prescribed an abdominal binder that I wore for another week and it made ALL the difference!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
