3 weeks post op and problems

Hello all. I am new and having a few problems. One is that I need a fill and still can't get one for another 3 weeks. I am eating much less than I would have before surgery altho not the best foods but still gaining. I can't wait for my first fill. But I still don't understand how I can gain by eating less!!!!!!!!

Secondly, I have been having increasing problems with food getting stuck. Some have said PB but after reading about it it doesn't seem like it. I can get food stuck on the first or last bite, it doesn't matter. I do think that I should still chew better but not sure if that is the problem. My food gets stuck and the pain in my throat, not my chest. I have never brought the food back up but have tried to drink and I can feel that slowly come back up and I will spit it out and it will do it again until the Fluid is gone. Many times I can feel the food finally work its way down having the feeling of someting move in from my throat to my chest area and stomach. And yes, it is quite painful. I am calling the drs. today as I have discussed this with them before. But just curious. I was prescribed Flexeril right after surgery for esophagial spasms so maybe that could be another cause. I just don't know. I was just hoping to find someone with a similar experience.

thanks to you all.

Hi Cindy,

I wish you a speedy recovery. I too have esphagial spasms, since surgery this past Tuesday. It hurts to swallow or even burp, it feels like someone squeezing your chest for 15 seconds - the pain is so bad it stops me in my tracks. I can't imagine going to work like this. I called the doc because I thought I was having a heart attack, and he said that it was esophagial spasms not everyone gets them, but nonetheless I had them. He didn't prescribe anything other than; drink, walk and pee. I can't drink the 60 oz, because it's so painful - but I'm trying. I sure hope this is something that we go away forever, otherwise I might be sorry I decided to have the surgery.

I wish you well, and hope you get rid of these awful pains quickly.

Try eating with a baby spoon and fork, I know it sounds crazy, but chances are you're taking larger bites, even though you're chewing well. Just a thought, hope it helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
