3 days post-op & I feel great! Except . . .

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Monday 1/5 and I guess I was a star patient because I was banded at 7:00 a.m. and I was ready to go home at 10:00 a.m. that same day. I was upset that I had to spend the night in the hospital. I was so bored and I felt so good so I just walked and walked around the hospital. My question is when do you get your first bowel movement? Since I have been on liquids since 3 days before the surgery and am on Clear Liquids still - I haven't had any. Plenty of gas but no BM.

You probably feel great because you did so much walking. Good for you. I was banded Dec 10th. I don't recall having a solid bowel movement for at least 5 days. You know solid in, solid out. As I recall, and someone with more experience may correct me on this, I think the small amount of food you take in will reduce the size of your stools. Hope that helps.

Call your doc and ask him when you should've "gone" and if you don't, what can you take? With the weekend coming up, you don't want to wait until Monday and not "go". He'll recommend a Fiber supplement or laxative if he things it could be problematic! You should have one, even if very minor.

If you have an opiod pain killer it can be constipating...so do call the doc, ok?

I was also banded monday 1/5 and I am on clear liquids. I have also had lots of gas and no bowel movement. I am not too concerned....I haven't eaten anything to warrant one....I have not had the sensation and my stomach feels fine in that dept. I do have LOTS of gas and after every sip of Fluid it moves that gas around a great deal. I was very ready to go home after my surgery...I was a walkin fool that whole evening and into the night. I also think that really helped.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
