Miracle Noodles

Recommended Posts

Have you all heard of "miracle noodles," they have no calories, they are a noodle substitute. You can buy them online or at Asian groceries where they are advertised as shiritake noodles. I have read that they are kind of rubbery. Do you think those with lapbands will be able to swallow these noodles? They do come in different types, such as pearl noodles, "orzo," and angel hair.

Thought this would be a great thing to eat once I get the lapband, but not if I won't be able to swallow it!

Thanks for your input.

the reason I was given for not eating Pasta, rice, or soft bread is that they swell in your pouch and can stretch your pouch - even if you eat the high Protein ones. I have had sticky rice once since being banded and chewed the heck out of it first but was still uncomfortable. I haven't tried noodles yet.

I had never hear of these and did a Google Search on the main ingredient Glucomannan. Might want to get it okayed by your Dr. or nutritionist is you are going to have these on a regular basis. Some people have had problems with choking due to the product absorbing a lot of Water and swells once injected. The Glucomannan is a root and has been shown to be helpful in weight loss and is available in pill form. Recommended to drink lots and lots of water with this product. There are cautions for people with some health conditions. It cannot be taken by anyone who has problems with their esophagus. It can be dangerous for diabetics as it can alter the insulin requirements. Should never be given to children. The sale of Glucomannan has been banned in some countries. Since it is a diuretic, plan on frequently needing access to a bathroom.

i think I will stick with spaghetti squash.

Hi just my opinion....

but they are really really gross!! I bought them before I was banded and thought they sounded good. They come in this stinky liquid that you have to wash off really well and they tasted weird. But hey you never know you might like them.

i thought the same thing - odd texture.

if i'm not using brown rice or spaghetti squash - i like soba noodles for stir frys. they are a buckwheat noodle found in most asian sections - a little goes a long way when i'm in the mood for "pasta"..

I ordered some to try them out and I think they don't work well if follow the directions on the package. I've had them when they were cooked in casseroles and they are pretty good then. But just rinsed out with sauce on top? Not so much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
