I'm wondering if any other recently banded members have had a tough time with-of ALL things chicken? ? I'm 3 weeks out and have tried it a couple of times this week, cooked in different ways each time, and it gets stuck with each attempt! How does one go without chicken?? Talk about a dietary staple!!

chicken is the one food I truly have trouble with. I can still eat it, but if it's white meat, I need to cook it in some kind of sauce. My doctor actually suggested it. He also said that it was alright to take a sip or two of Water when eating chicken because it is so dry.

I was told that if you really like to each chicken, which I do, you must eat it with something juicy or slimey. I was recommended marinades, gravey, or other sauce.

I eat chicken breast regularly. I can eat the boneless skinless chicken breast but I really like the chicken breast tenderloins They are smaller and cost more but they cook up so soft and juicy so they are much easier to eat.

For me the chicken breast has to be cooked just right, if it is cooked just a little too long then it is too dry to tolerate. I marinade mine then cook them on a George Foreman grill. It took practice to figure out the timing but I cook them just until they are no longer pink inside. Use tongs to turn the chicken (piercing it with a fork lets out the juices). I also cook up the marinade to use as a sauce for storing and reheating the chicken. My favorite marinade is 1/2 cup fat free Italian dressing and 2 tbs. dijon mustard, marinade for 30 minutes or more.

I have been a vegetarian for the past 6 years, however, since getting my band I have had to add adjust, so I tried adding chicken and no matter what I do, how I cook it or how I coat it it gets stuck horribly!

I did try an extremely small piece of very tender steak at a resturaunt from my husbands plate about a month ago before my latest fill and it was ok, but as a rule I don't eat red meat (even before becoming vegetarian)

I basically just eat lots of tender fish instead

Im not sure if you guys have tried this or not but I find that my chicken must be very moist, sometimes i cook it in my crock pot with chicken stock. i add some veggies and it is just like chicken Soup. When it comes to all meats for me, the key must be moistness. I cut my chicken into very small pieces. Now no matter how I cook it, I cant do turkey because it is more of a stringie meat.< /p>

I love chicken. I mean I really really love chicken. My friends say I have feathers, because all we eat at home is chicken.

One of my fears about this surgery (Silly fear I know) was that I would never again it chicken. However, I am banded and I have no problems eating chicken.

I had no problem eating chicken until I was at my 'sweet spot' and then it seemed to get stuck no matter what I did. I can rarely eat chicken, but have some luck in the following forms: chicken Soup (I love the stuff from costco, their deli), finely diced in chicken salad, and dark meat marinaded in the crock pot. Chicken breast is evil, no matter what I do.

Well, it's good to know I'm not alone!

I will keep trying different ways to prepare it, I have had some chicken soup-by Progresso I think-and that went down fine. It's just the darn dinners I try to make that seem to get me. And it's funny, to me the more I chew chicken the more dry it becomes! Odd food, but I can't imagine life without it!

Thanks all for the input! Good luck...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
