Hi everyone,

I've had a tough last few weeks and I haven't come to the forums because I kind of feel like I'm the only one going through this 2 months post op.

I had my one month follow up on December 5th everything was great and the PA told me that I may start to feel hungrier soon and that was normal since I haven't had a fill yet. My Doctor does not do a fill until 2 months post op. The rest of December was bad. I have lost and gained the same 3 pounds. I'm so frustrated.

I have my first fill (FINALLY) tomorrow morning. I'm afraid their going to give me a hard time about not really losing any weight this month. The dietitian told me in December that if I come in without gaining any weight then I've been successful but frankly ,I don't feel it. I HATE being hungry and just about the whole month of December,I have felt like I've had no restriction. I feel like a failure ,even though technically I've only gained a pound or so ,STILL.

I really need some support ,I hope I don't get in tomorrow and get a lecture.

Hey Girl,

Just so you know, I went through the same thing. My first month post op I had only lost 15 lbs which to me was not enough. My doctor told me to not beat myself up about it because he said his "job" doesn't start until he does the fills. He told me that the first 15 was on my own and that he was proud of me. I had my first fill 3 weeks ago and I've managed to loose another 5lbs through the holidays. Be patient with it. Remember how last year you would have either stayed at the same weight if you weren't already gaining weight like me. You are also never alone in all of this. You're doing great, don't give up!!!!

what you are feeling is normal - the doctor will not be upset with you - it gets better after a couple of fills - don't give up!

we all are- probably one of the reasons we end up needing the lapband - be proud of yourself for making this big step - it was a big step! - you'll be fine

Thank you for replying!! I guess I am just so hard on myself when it comes to my weight and progress in general.

At this point,I'd settle for ANY restriction. It almost feels like there's nothing there ,except that I know there is ,considering I still feel "tight" in the morning .

All I can say is go to the doctor no matter what....that is a HUGE part of making the lapband work!!

I went today after not losing weight for 4 months because I thought I was at a good fill....but I could still eat alot (including junk at xmas) but I did not want to jump the gun and get to tight and start having problems....I did not eat as much as I could before the band.....but today I got another fill and it works ALOT BETTER as far as getting the full feeling!!!!

It takes a while to know what your looking for as far as "the feeling". I never felt anything until about 3rd or 4th fill and I found out today I like it even tighter......I think I found my sweet spot today.....I hope. I keep learning every time I get a fill as to what it is I'm looking for.

Hope this helps and remember even if you gain weight keep going to the doctor.

I was eating less than I was supposed to (500-600 cal) because I was enjoying the weight loss (and starving by the way). When I met the dietician the other day, she got angry with me and said this is a time of healing, learning to eat right, and that loosing weight should be last on my list. She said "IF you loose weight, ok, but that is not the goal until the fills come in." I tried to justify what I was doing, and that the more I ate, the hungrier I felt. She had NO sympathy. I ate close to 1000 cals today and I hate it. I feel like I have been eating all day.

I did chastize the nurse for no-one telling me about Bandster Hell. She had nothing to say to this, but I know they never told me I would be starving for several months with no restriction. If I had known, I might have gone with bypass!!!

I feel your pain, and I am sorry things are rough for you. I can't wait to hear from you in a few months when it is "supposed" to get better:blush:

When i started reading what you posted I thought it was my post. I had the same problem throught the holiday gaining and loosing but I OK now. I think you need to trust that the ban will help eventually. My doctor fills slowly and I think that's OK maybe we won't have as many problems if out doctors fill slowly. Yesterday the doctor said as she gave me my first fill that now she is just beginning the process that eventually will make me feel ful. We need to be patient. I have having the same problem with waiting as you are. Lets keep supporting each other. Don't worry about what they will say tomorrow remember they are all on your team and want to help you be sucessful. I wish you well tomorrow. It went real well fo me no pain at all.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
