Hi unsure15 I am back from my 1 week checkup. I lost 6 lbs this week. I was told I can start on soft foods since I haven't had any problems. I think every Dr is different, It's kind of scary to start new foods.

I did after 2 full weeks of liquids (no Protein shakes etc 1st week)...BUT it is VERY important to do what YOUR doc tells YOU...not anecdotal info you read here. If you are truly starved and feel bad, call your surgeon or nutritionist and see what you might be able to add in. That is WAY safer than just doing what some other doc says to do. We're all different, surgeons are different, the way he sutures your band may be different and patients who progress too fast have issues. There could be many reasons why your surgeon has that diet.

It is HARD...they call it bandster hell....but you can get through it. I've read of people with 6 WEEK liquid diets! (that's just inhuman, in my book) Call your doc tomorrow and see if you can move forward sooner.

I too had a 3-week liquids-only stage. You just have to make up your mind that this is what it takes to be successful with your new tool. It's not easy, but it is certainly worth it. When I started feeling really light-headed and woozy after one week, I sat down and figured out how many calories I was actually getting in a day, and was shocked to see it was only 300. What worked for me was to add a higher-calorie Protein drink to the ones I was already using. That got my calories up to about 500 a day. Just that little bit made a difference in how I was feeling, and was within the parameters set by my doctor.

And I wholeheartedly agree with RM; follow YOUR doctor's instructions.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
