1st Fill

Recommended Posts

I went for a check up today and got my first fill. The Dr was very pleased with my weight loss (11 more pounds since my last appt. on 15 Dec) and said it was up to me whether or not to get a fill. I told him I had been getting quite hungry and could I please get a smidge .... so he put in 2cc's. I go back in 3 weeks to see how it's going.

It was no big deal...only felt a small sting when he gave me the numbing shot. Then I sat up and took a couple of sips of Water and then I was out of there.

I like his scale better, I came right home and weighed and mine was 2 pounds more. My highest weight was from my first visit to his office. I'll see if it's still off after my next visit. I'm using his as my official weight anyway.

Hey Teresa!

Congrats on the weight loss. You will have to keep us up to date on how your hunger is now that you got a fill and how your eating changes too. I've been told that once you start getting the fills things really change.

Keep us up to date!

Teresa: Thanks for the update. And congratulations.

I go for my first fill on Monday, and I liked reading about your experience so I'll know what to expect.

Knowing what to expect from reading others experiences here is very helpful. I wasn't scared at all and knew the only thing I would feel is the initial poke to numb the area. After I was numb the Dr pushed and felt about 3 times and then stuck it in. I could sense the pressure from his probing but didn't feel anything.

This morn I was drinking my Protein shake as usual on the way to work and all the sudden I couldn't take another drink, I only had half of it. Then I only had 1 egg where I have been eating 2. It's so weird, I can't feel any difference but I just reach a point that I can't take another bite or I would be sick ~ it's hard to describe and kinda cool, not feeling hungry like I was and being completely satisfied with just a small amount.

I had my first fill this afternoon.

I have a 10cc band, and the nurse put in 4cc of saline.

She didn't numb the area. Actually, the first time she pricked me she missed - hit some scar tissue. The next time she hit the mark, and I felt a sensation internally immediately. The needle pricks were not painful or uncomfortable as all.

I have two more fill sessions booked - the first in two weeks, and the next two weeks after that. They suggested that after the third fill to "sit" with it for a little while to determine if I've reached the "sweet" spot. That is not to rush back in and ask for more (or maybe less) fill.

Also, I'm on full fluids just for today - Protein shakes - and back to food tomorrow. The first few sips of Water gave me a rollicking case of hiccups. And the first few sips of Protein shake were a little weird.

It's been about 4 1/2 hours since the fill, and I still feel a pressure but not as assertive as it was.

Had my 2nd fill today. I lost 6lbs in the 3 weeks since my last fill. I can definitely feel this one. I sipped the Water in the office just fine but once I got out to the car and took a drink from my water bottle, I could feel that one. Not painful but uncomfortable. I'm having cream of chicken Soup for dinner and maybe a Protein Shake later if needed. I go back in 3 more weeks. Oh, he put 1.5cc so I have a total of 3.5cc now. He had a little more trouble finding the port this time but it still didn't hurt. I'm right on target with my losses but I've been hungrier so we went ahead with the fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
