 Does anyone here have United Health Care insurance? If so could you tell me if you had a hard time with getting the approval for the Lap-Band surgery?:)

Yes, I have United Healthcare PPO. I had my first Lapband seminar at the end of August 2008. My surgeon said he wanted everything done first, before he would even submit it to UHC. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a bmi of 41. I went through 5 months of nutritional counseling with Diabetes of America and submitted 5 yrs of medical records showing being overweight. My surgeons office accidentally sent it in to UHC on Dec. 8th, 2008 without finishing my 6 month diet education or my psyc exam. They approved it,:) within a couple of days even with out those!! I just had my surgery yesterday morning. The insurance process was super smooth for me.

I also have UCH and was approved very quickly too, within about 2 weeks of my first appointment with my doctor. I was pleasantly surprised!

Have UHC as my secondary insurance and had no problem getting approval once they had the denial letter from my primary insurance, which excludes WLS from coverage. (That's a fun phone call to make to an insurance co: "could you please send my rejection quicker?")

UHC only required a five-year weight history since I have a BMI over 40 and have been above 40 for five years.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
