Hi everyone I have never written a post or talked about my band with anyone other than my boyfriend! Well I have to confess I was banded April 2007 and havent lost a pound! I have had 3 fills and seem to find a way to eat around the band. I cant eat solids in the morning and struggle to eat in the afternoon but can usually eat an ok dinner. The thing is when i do eat i know Im not eating the right things! For example today I ate non fat latte with oatmeal for Breakfast a zone bar for lunch and 2 buffalo wings with ranch dressing, 1 slider and 2 southwest egg rolls for dinner! MY lapband also isnt always tight somedays its extremely tight and other days I can eat bread and gooey foods like a normal person! I got the lapband to lose 50lbs and havent lost a pound! Should I get it removed!!! AHHHHH HELP ME!

I think you probably need another fill. If you get to restriction you should find yourself eating less. Three fills rarely does it for most people. Your food choices aren't all that bad, are you exercising? Are you following the rules with not drinking with meals, stopping when you are satisfied and not eating between meals? Have you not felt any restriction?

lauranflores - I could've written your post myself. I was banded May 21, 2007 and haven't lost a single pound. I lost about 10 or 12 pounds on the PRE op diet, but nothing since surgery. I know exactly how you feel. It's depressing and frustrating, to say the least. And, those that haven't struggled to lose weight after WLS don't understand the extent of frustration. Sure, it's hard on all of us to lose weight - that's why we resorted to WLS, but to not lose any weight despite surgery, is a real bummer. I go for a check up and a fill today. I have a 4cc band, have had 7 fills and one slight unfill, have lost much of my Fluid for an unknown reason, and am having the fluid measured again today to determine if a leak is the culprit. That being said, I don't make good choices and I don't exercise like I should, and I don't drink enough Water. I totally blame myself - the band is working, I am not! I need to get over this hump and get back on track. We can use each other for support. Good luck to you!

You are probably close to your sweet spot so it may take a little trial and error to get it just right. If it turns out that you are too tight you can get a slight unfill, that is what happened with my last fill before I found my sweet spot.

A hot drink first thing in the morning helps to loosen things up a bit but I can drink cold drinks as well. I can eat in the morning but I have to take it very easy eating slowly and chewing well. I eat solid food for all three meals, doctors orders. At lunch time I am looser but still have to be a bit more careful. By dinner the food goes down much easier..I still have to take small bites and chew well but it is much more relaxed.

I am eating regular food, eggs, oatmeal, lean meats, cheese, milk, salad, veggies, Beans and fruit. I eat whole grain flat bread (wrap bread) in limited amounts but I do not eat anything with bleached white flour. I don't eat sugar, Pasta, rice, starchy veggies. Although I am not diabetic, these foods affect my blood sugar and cause cravings (head hunger).

I don't measure, I eat until I am satisfied some days it is a very small amount and others it is more.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
