Which free tracking site is best?

Recommended Posts

I need to start doing a food tracking journal. I'd also like to have the ability to track exercise. I don't intend to do this the rest of my life, but when I do want to, I'd like to be able to track as much as possible; Fiber, fat, Water, etc. I want to use one of the free online sites and I'm wondering which one is best and why? I've heard FitDay and MyDailyPlate mentioned here. Anyone compare the sites available before you selected one to use? Thanks!

I did... I started with fitday, its really simple but they don't have a lot of namebrand food choices so you have to do a lot work to get correct calories ect....then I did daily plate..it has a steep learning curve but you can really break things down and has almost every food or you can add your own. But I like my fitness pal the best ,great food selections and you can add your own, track weight, fitness, calories, fat carbs...its really easy to use.

Hi :)

I use fitday.com as well, it works well for me and I will stick with it, I did try Sparkpeople.com but I just couldn't get use to using it sadly - it is a site that pretty much combines forums and calorie tracking(actually it provides a lot) and I met some great people there.

However, I always come back to LapBandTalk.com and Fitday.

Thanks so much! Just set myself up there and it seems great...very easy to use and I'm no techno queen. I was able to easily add fiber and sugar to daily log and other body measurements to capture (bust, etc.), and so far they've had all the food brands I use; great! Thanks again!

I've tried FitDay and SparkPeople and I have to tell you that I think SparkPeople is great. They have a lot of the foods that we eat daily but you can also create your own list for example I make a high Protein Shake that I drink often and I was able to create it and add it to my list and therefore it's available for me to add anytime I want. They also customize a workout routine for you but you can opt out of that and create your own, they also demonstrate the exercises for you. It's got a lot of features and they have important news articles and recipes you can share. It's free and it's managable and I can access it from anywhere. Good Luck with your selection.

I use my daily plate on livestrong.com and love it. Calculates EVERYTHING including exercise all in one. Working really well for me too. You can have it calculate what your daily intake should be if you want to loose or maintain at the weight you give them. My likey!

Hi,

I was reading your blog, did you have to do a 6th month diet before the insurance company would approve your surgery? I am going through the same thing only my doctor is not really making me diet, he is however encouraging excercise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
