Be sure to check out his patient reviews on ObesityHelp.com too.

Dr. Aceves made my "Short List" of doctors but I decided to stay local so I never got past talking to him online and researching his credentials. He has tons of happy patients though so you should be able to find info about him.

I was just banded by Dr. Aceves last Saturday. The whole experience was terrific. I felt very pampered and very well taken care of by the doctor and attending staff. I flew from Tallahassee to San Diego early Friday morning. My husband and I were picked up by Ernesto (who was our driver the entire trip). The drive from the airport to Mexicali took about 2 hours. As soon as we arrived at the hospital (it's beautiful and very clean), I was met by Yolando (Nina's mother) and Lucy. They took me through all my pre-op tests very quickly. We were then taken by Ernesto to a very nice hotel to spend the night. We had a terrific dinner and we were both given a sleeping pill to ease our anxiety. Ernesto picked us up at 7:00 am and my surgery was performed around 8:30 am. My husband was allowed to stay in my assigned room to wait for me. Once they brought me back to the room, I really felt pretty good. Not a lot of pain. I spent two nights in the hospital and was taken care of around the clock. My husband had a very comfortable leather couch to sleep on. Then, early Monday morning, Ernesto picked us up and drove us back to the airport.

It was very easy. I was given all of my lab tests and xrays to take back with me to give my local doctor.

I was banded by Dr. A in October 2008, and the whole experience was wonderful. Everyone especially the doctor makes sure you are well informed. Being a nurse I am well aware of the good and bad of medial care and can say that my experience at the Almater Hospital and the staff put our American hospitals to shame. Dr, A and all the other doctors are very direct and you know upfront what you are getting into. The nursing care was excellent. The hospital was cleaner than any i have ever been in. You are given detailed information about everything you need to bring with you and need to know before you leave home. you can go back there for fills or have them done somewhere else . You are given copies of all your xrays and a full surgical report, and all your lab work. My daughter went to Mexicali before me and had nothing but good to say about it. I would highly recommend Dr. A and the mexicali Almater hospital. i have even heard about people who go back to mexicali for plastic surgery. If you haven't already checked out their website I would recommend you do so. You can also email any questions or concerns to them and they are prompt in responding. good luck. If you decide on Dr. A you won't regret it.

I have never heard anything but wonderful things about him and his staff. My surgeon is local, but some day in the future, I plan to have my band taken out and have Dr. Aceves do a sleeve for me.

Everyone I know that has gone to him absolutely loves him, his staff, and the hospital he works at. I know a nurse who has observed him in surgery and says she would not go to anyone else.

I was banded by Dr. Aceves on December 27th. I have to agree with everyone else that has already posted. I have some pictures in my album from the hospital. I live in Los Angeles and he's only 3 1/2 huors away from me so we drove. I did pre-ops on Friday, had the same great hotel experience Friday night, surgery Saturday, and because my husband and I drove down there I was able to go home on Sunday. Like the others said, they send you home with all your x-rays and tests, they also send you with a prophylactic antibiotic and some pain meds. Once I left the hospital though I never needed the pain meds, just some liquid tylenol one time. I was rather paranoid as I had never been under anesthesia before in my life! The staff made it great though, felt so at ease, even before the happy pill:tt2:. If there's anything else I can possibly help you with please let me know!

I paid $7000 last month as well. You can't beat it for all the services that he and his staff provide.

Of course, now, the trick is to find a place that will provide my fills. I've been unable to locate anyone closer than 5 hours away that will provide fills for Mexico-banded patients. I'm in the Tallahassee, FL area and not having much luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
