  1. 1. Do you get a numbing agent before a fill?

I am due for my second fill and didn't receive any numbing agent for the first one so I am just wondering how many of you get something to numb you first. I called the nurse today and she said they don't promote it - whatever that means (I guess it means no, never). I'm going to try to post this with a poll but I'm not sure how to do it. So it may not work.

I do, but it wouldn't be any big deal if I didn't.

I just had my third fill (or tweak as my surgeon calls it) and definitely had the numbing. I can't really imagine it without, but it may not be so bad. This fill was the best one, one stick - found the port, fill, and out. Surgeon said that it is easier as you get skinnier but on the other hand then you don't need as many. Oh well.

Good luck with yours. I would just ask for some Lidocaine and see what they say. You are the patient!

:laugh:Oh heck yes I do! I had my first fill and it was not a pleasant experience, even though my surgeon is good at giving fills, and he used fluro it was very painful for me.

So now I always get a numbing shot before hand and I am much happier

Nope. I barely feel the needle as it is.

Yes! I had my second fill today, and I'm very grateful for the numbing agent. My port has always been easy to find. Today, my surgeon had trouble getting to the right spot in the port. There was lots of poking and prodding. I had to lay with a pillow under my back and crunch up. It took about 20 minutes to finally complete the fill.

I had my first fill today, and I did get the numbing stuff. To tell you the truth, I've had skeeter bites that hurt worse than what I went through today. It was nothing.

Today was my first fill and NO I didn't have numbing agent. Dr. had some trouble at first and only for a few minutes of poking and proding but it wasn't to bad. No pain just weird feeling and a bit of pressure because he kept hitting the side of the port.

I have always had numbing with my fills. They just do it as part of the procedure. They have never had a hard time finding the port, in fact I have been in and out pretty quickly each time.

No numbing agent - I think getting blood drawn hurts much worse. I could hardly feel it.

My first fill, however, was sort of traumatic. I had just broken up w/my boyfriend and I was so nervous about the procedure, not sure what to expect. The surgeon couldn't find my port and I started to panic, and then the tears started to flow. Lots of tears. The nurse and surgeon stopped what they were doing, looked so worried, asked if they hurt me, and I told them they didn't hurt me, but someone else did...! After that the surgeon found the port as the nurse consoled me. It turned out to be a bonding experience, and none of the pain was related to the procedure.

I guess when you need to cry, you need to cry!

My first fill was a nightmare....she couldn't access the port with the needle, decided that the needle was dull so she tried another needle and low and behold it worked! In answer to your question/poll I always get numbed! No problems since then tho!
