Help! Horrible pain at port. Doc no help!

Recommended Posts

Hello Y'all. I am 6 months out. At around 2 months post op I started having quick sharp pains at or around my port. My doctor said it was a pulled muscle. the nurse said it was the port rubbing against organs. They basically shrug it off. Now I'm on vacation and the pain has been constant for three days. Not like before when it come and go randomly in a matter of seconds. I'm nervous. My doc still thinks it nothing. Could the port have slipped or gotten infected some how. Anyone experiencing similar symptoms. I hate to be such a drama queen... but ouch. i can't function...

Yes, I have experienced that pain and I ended up having a port that would bonk against my rib area and cause pain that got worse and worse. I would call your surgeon, be very adament that you need to be seen, they need to determine what is going and then fix it!

I ended up having a port revision with a low profile port that was smaller and thinner. My surgeon was very responsive to my needs.

Good luck to you and do not take no for an answer!!!

I agree with Babbs you need to INSIST the doc see you , if you think something is not right something probably is not .

I would assume they just have to look at your port under Flouro to see what is going on . So they need to listen to you !

Where is your port? Depending on where it is, you could have some other issue and you just "THINK" it's your port. Either way I too am one to say "Tell your doctor and have him do whatever test necessary"

I had some port pain awhile back and they thought it could be an infection, it was very sore to touch. They put me on mega-anti-inflamatories and were pretty aggressive trying to make sure everything was good.

I went back in a week for a check, felt better, stayed of exercise for another week and everything has been fine since.

I would make sure you get an appt and be seen. If you are having concerns, they should at least have a look to see if there is anything going on!

I hope you feel better!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
