Ive been in bed now for 4 days with this vicious flu virus, & im getting banded in 2 weeks time, went to dr's today put me on pencilin & a throat spray (difflam) i have never felt so ill in all my life, fever,I have blisters back of my throat,

Trying to stay positive as my post op ass is next tuesday, but its hard to keep my spirits up, my doc thinks i should be ok by then, but the way i feel, i doubt it, but hopes to god i will be,

I have lost 16lbs in a week cos of it & im on my pre op diet & for the last 3 days i havnt been able to eat or drink, Tonight im forcing warm drinks down me, cant even have Soup as its not allowed on the pre op diet, but i need to eat to keep my strength up

Do you think i will be Ok before the date of my op..please keep your fingers crossed for me

Did anyone else have this horrible flu virus before their op?

I am sorry your not feeling well. In 2 weeks you will /should be over the flu.

But if you do not feel like you have recovered enough i would postpone the surgery . You are going to need all your strength to recover. Have you asked your doc if you can have Soup or if you can have a few things that are not on the pre op diet considering your sick ? I would bet he would say ok , you need your strength and nutrition being sick .

Hope you feel better soon

Mindy

First ask your surgeon if you can have something nutritious while you are fighting the flu. He might prefer you have Protein Drinks instead of soup....but ask him.

Then realize you've only been sick 4 days and just started your antibiotics. Your surgery is two weeks away. Reassess how you feel next week; that's plenty of time to reschedule depending on how you feel. Odds are, you'll feel a lot better by then.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
