biggest loser - '09

Recommended Posts

It's not a gimmick, precisely. From what I've read from previous contestants, the actual weigh-in occurs elsewhere earlier.

The production crew already knows the results, and the contestants are brought up to the fake scale in the most dramatic order for TV.

Yes, I heard that too about them knowing before they get up there, I forgot. I just think that they have made the blue team the underdog. I was sort of dissappointed in the black team about how they ate and knowing that they would have the weight in. I was surprised like Beth said that Mandi (I think that's her name) gained. Was also surprised (but shouldn't have been by the way she ate) that Tara didn't lose not a single pound. Brown boy probably didn't eat or drink as much as the others.

Mantee, I think we need to you report the events of the show like you did last week:biggrin:

Statistically the black team should have NEVER won that weigh-in. What do you suppose that splurge followed by that win tells people in the general public?

I agree with you, Beth.

I remember my Weight Watcher's years, and the ugly truth that you can't run from the sad fact that the calories in do catch up, and sometimes not until several days after the pig fest. I think next week some of those lucky losers on the black team will pay the price on the scales, or maybe it'll just rev up their metabolism, and they'll continue to dominate.

ya'll start posting when the show hits the air....LOL

i save it for wed morning treadmill time.:mad2:

ok i might get a bit slammed, but here i go. so WHAT if they ate & drank? the reality of it is there is no balance in everyday life on the ranch. temptation is not under their nose 24/7 - like the rest of us who have to make decent choices many more times in a day than they do. a reason why i think some do gain back a few lbs. when they go back home.

i'm glad they showed their night on the town. every now and then, i'll eat a higher calorie meal, have an extra glass of wine - i just try to balance that out w/more time in the gym or treadmill. it's not realistic to think those "choices" are out of the question & jillian needed a chill a bit, and state her peace then kick their ass in the gym. she went a bit overboard in MO.

ok - re: the show.

the cousins, who i do like just need to pull their panties up & deal. i'm secretly rooting for mike (brown son) along w/tara still. gosh there was so much drama on this show - helped me on the treadmill this am to work off that extra glass of wine last night.:wink2:

I am not suggesting that you "coddle the imcompetent" but his name is Ron, or brown dad, but name calling is childish and unnecessary and takes away from the legitamacy of your observations of Rons' weaknesses. I agree that he is a weak link. I also think that he falls into making excuses for himself and plays the "poor me card". I cannot believe the blue team did not vote him off, as he is the main reason they lose every single challenge. But I will still not lower myself, or contribute to the genereal degredation of a group of people who have weight issues, of which, you and I belong, with mean-spirited name calling on a public forum. Call him whatever you want in your own home, or in a private conversation, but in public, it is not a positve thing. Believe me, I get that life is not all Unicorns and Rainbows and am the first person to expect personal responsibility in people. I also recognize however, when unnecessary meaness is not productive and only serves to make someone feel better about themselves by tearing someone else down and that, in the long run, is harmful to everyone.

EXCUSE ME!!!! I didn't call him names! I couldn't remember his name, Hence the term BROWN dad! Please don't tell me you have never called anyone names. Wether they be fat, thin, handycapped! Whatever!! I don't think there is 1 single person (other than Jesus) that has never called someone names. I don't necessarily like name calling, but I'm not calling the kettle black!

Are you really PG with a name change?

I know I am going to soooooooo regret this but the truth is we are probably all guilty of descriptive names. I for one hate being referred to as "that redhead" or "fat redhead" or any other descriptive term but we do it. I do it and I'm willing to bet so does everyone else at one time or another. It doesn't make it right it makes us human

I'm sure you're only referred to as Ms. Flame. :mad2: (my sis is a redhead)

You've got a good point here, Luluc - I hadn't really thought of it that way...I guess I was hoping they would choose "better" restaurant food. The fried chicken tenders and fries were just over the top for me, and while I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing, I am not on the show...

I think they were overconfident...

i'm glad they showed their night on the town. every now and then, i'll eat a higher calorie meal, have an extra glass of wine - i just try to balance that out w/more time in the gym or treadmill. it's not realistic to think those "choices" are out of the question & jillian needed a chill a bit, and state her peace then kick their ass in the gym. she went a bit overboard in MO.

Jillian did get a little over the edge - they are, after all, grown folks. I think they needed a hard workout more than they needed to be hollered at like they were misbehaving children.

ok - re: the show.

the cousins, who i do like just need to pull their panties up & deal. i'm secretly rooting for mike (brown son) along w/tara still.

I am with you on the cousins - though Felipe could have done his fussing with Jillian at a different time. He should not have waited until he wanted to explode to say it, and he shouldn't have had the outburst in front of everyone else. I'm also rooting for Mike - I think he has the potential to do very well. Tara just plain rocks - at times I don't like her, but she is a true competitor, and she works hard.

I was also hoping they (the Black team) would all either not lose or gain after their binge night - they just went waaay overboard (even though they are all adults) and completely forgot about the contest. I think one of them even said - this is proof I'm not ready to leave the ranch yet - and never was a truer statement spoken!

I felt bad for Mandi - that she worked hard but didn't lose ANYTHING. That would have crushed me too. Felipe can't blame Jillian for HIS screw-up, and I think Bob should have sent them back to work out their problems with Jillian.

More drama next week, I'm willing to bet...

Filipe is just a whiner now in my book.

The last week or two (since the switch) he complained because she was training him differently and he didn't like it. He was blaming her then for his shortcomings. THIS week she backs off of him and he throws a temper tantrum, then runs to "daddy" to cry and moan. And worse yet, Bob enabled them in this behavior. It's disgusting behavior, especially that Filipe would blame Jillian for HIS problems.

All the numbers shocked me. I was surprised the blue teams didn't kick butt and the blacks suck bigger, but it just goes to show why we are on here sometimes saying I can't seem to get the scale to move. I felt for the blue even though I'm rooting for black. Sometimes there just doesn't seem to be any explanation for what our bodies do to us. Not to be cruel but her 2 lb gain could have been from Water retention from her cycle, who knows. A million explanations, none of which I'm sure were good enough for her.

The black team needs to get back to being tough if they want to stay out of the elimination room. They have to burn those calories off as well as extra to loose. I think they all seemed to realize luxury came at a high price, but could have been higher.

The scales should be interesting next week.......is it just me or does anyone else think Capt Kristian is annoying as much as Ron?

I felt really bad for Mandi because she always seemed to feel she had to do things for her team. I don't think she's past putting others first and that could lead to failure.

I'm really so tired of Ron because he is the first one to say so and so should leave when he is the biggest slacker there is. Don't get on me about name calling. He is. His son has bore the weight of trying to keep his dad on the show for quite a while. I almost think it would be better for his son if Ron went home so the kid could quit feeling responsible for him.

I also would have been really mad if I were on the blue team for the cousins being trained by my trainer. Sorry but that's the game. You may not like what they do (like changing your trainer) but you should man up and just handle it. This is training for real life and real life does coddle you.

As far as their eating out, I think it was great to show people that it happens. We all have to go through those situations and we will all leave at least a few of those feeling like we messed up. However, we will also leave some of those situations feeling pretty victorious.

JMHO!

Vicki

ron doesn't bother me at all - kristin does. ugh, her over the top drama in her one-on-one camera time is beyond excessive.

i'm glad bob kept the cousins to train. gives jillian more time with tara & mike who i'm pulling for. anxious to see the revolt from the blue team w/bob when they complain about him training the cousins....NOW we'll have good drama...LOL

Can't stand slacker Ron. When he said it was time for Mandi to go, I was yellin' at the tv!! I was like, "WHAT?? WHO put your team behind in the challenge?? RON did! Mandi was the one trying to catch up for HIS slacking!"

If he has problems that keep him from being able to pull his own weight (no pun intended) for his team, then he should have been gone a looooong time ago. Too bad, so sad... leave an opening for somebody who CAN succeed at this better.

I also would have been really mad if I were on the blue team for the cousins being trained by my trainer. Sorry but that's the game. You may not like what they do (like changing your trainer) but you should man up and just handle it. This is training for real life and real life does coddle you.

Omg, and was it Mandi that said that while she liked the guys and technically didn't have a problem with them training with her team, that Bob was giving time to them that SHE needed?? I'm sorry, but even a MINUTE spent with these guys is a minute that somebody on his TEAM misses out on. Bob really disgusts me about now -- from his nodding assent as the crybabies were wailing to him about how mommy was being mean to the fact that he cried -- CRIED -- when the teams were split apart. What a bunch of wussies. May as well dub them the Tres Puntas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
