Excited for a new life

Recommended Posts

Let me start by saying I am sooo glad I found this website! I have my first doctors appointment in 2 weeks and have a ton of questions. I already completed a packet of paperwork, attented a seminar, insurance has approved the lapband, now it is just up to me to make the final jump. I keep telling myself I am excited but, I do fear the unknown!!! Reading alot of your comments tonight helped me out alot. I just need to realize that this is and will be a HUGE change and it will come with a mental challenging road! I would appreciate any comments or advise that anyone is willing to send my way. Thank you for this site and to everyone willing to share and discuss this battle for a healthier life!!!!

Well you've taken the first steps and that is something to be proud of . I will be having my surgery on January 14TH (next Weds). I'm scared as hell ,but excited at the same time to begin with you've already checked with your insurance which is a BIGGIE . Next the doctor will have you go through al ot of testing . I had to do all my testing within three months . I have AENTA POS that was their guides lines for my plan .I started out on Sept28th of 2008 and by Dec24Th I was approved, not bad ,but I have heard of people having to wait months or years . The key is NOT to give up hope and continue to see the doctor once a month for weighins.Gather all your weights for however many years your insurance company requires and KEEP COPIES of everything . Make sure they go to the proper person who is putting they packet together for the insurance company ,write down names and dates you spoke with them . Oh and another thing if you ever went to any kind of weight program (Weight watchers ,Jenny Craig ..ect) or were a gym member that will show that you have attempted to lose weight in the past . I wish you good blessing and hope you all the best in your Quest

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
