Has anyone been prescibed phentermine by their surgeon? I was banded April 28th, 2008. Because my weight loss was slower than normal my surgeon prescribed phentermine which is a weight loss drug that has been used for many years. I was a little discouraged thinking that the band isn't working. Been on phentermine for 1 month have dropped 15lbs. I go in Jan 13th for my 6th fill. Total weight loss is 45lbs. Again I'm a little concerned because I don't want to be taking this drug too long and what happens when the drug stops?:tongue2:

I took it back right after they took redux and the other part of phen (phentermine)-fen (fenfluramine)off the market. It didn't help me, just raised my blood pressure. And unfortunately once you quit taking it, if you eat like you "did", you'll gain everything back.

I took Phentermine for 8 months back in 2001 and dropped 82lbs in those 7 months. It was great, I never ate, completly lost my appetite. It is an appetite suppresant and speeds up your metabolism so you will sweat, get hot flashes and terrible dry mouth. Can raise your blood pressure and should not take it if you have any heart problems as it can make your heart race. I could just eat a hard boiled egg for dinner and be fine. After I got off the pill my appetite came back with a vengance. When I stopped seeing the weight Dr. it was terrible, I gained the 82lbs back in about 9 months, plus another 20 on top of that. It totally screws up your metabolism.

I was on it for about 6 months, landed me in the hospital with heart problems. And was demanded to be taken off it. I wouldnt recommend it. Although, I have heard some success stories, but once you stop it, the weight comes right back. Its a diet pill, appetite supressant. Not good. ESPECIALLy if youre banded.

I took this drug back in the day when ithad the fhen part to it. Plus, I took it when they took the fhen part out too. I had great results, but eventually gained the weight back. :-(

The FDA rules on this drug according to my doctor, is that you are not to take this medication for more than three months. You take it for a couple of months and then your are off it for a couple of months. At least that is how my doctor perscribed it to me. Plus, I had to see her every month. This was my primary care doctor not my surgeon and this was several years ago.

I was banded march 10, 2008 and I have lost 46 lbs. I even gained 10 lbs back and then lost 5 of it. I have been stuck since Sept.08. I have had 7 fills. I finally fill restricted. But the weight is not going down. I been thinking of asking my doc for phentermine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
