What I think of Oprah's show today!

Recommended Posts

Good point, Lauralee...I get the feeling her whole "coming out party" is a ploy to increase her popularity...to make her seem more "normal" like the rest of us.

I also remember when I had only 40 pounds to lose and how I felt about myself. I gained about 75 more and looked back and wished I would have done something about it at that time...it would have not been so overwhelming. I truly have sympathy for anyone with a weight problem. Oprah has definitely struggled her entire life with weight issues. I guess one the main things that irks me about Oprah is that she preaches tolerance, pats herself on the back in front of God and everyone and then does not practice what she preaches. It's not just her show about WLS...she's had others where she just completely will abase, ridicule a person for a problem they have.

I caught a show a couple of years ago. It was about a hoarder. Oprah had cameras go into the home. The home was absolutely filthy. Her show was based on how hoarding is an sickness like any other obsession. Anyway, the woman (a very pretty, nicely dressed lady) was sitting in the front row at Oprah's show. Oprah ripped into her. She asked her how she could sit there with diamonds on her fingers and live in a dirty house like that. If I did have any respect for Oprah...I would have lost it that day. Point being...she needs to practice what she preaches.

Since the topic's been revived, I do have one more thing to add LOL. It really, really bothers me that she claims to be against "weight loss surgery" but has clearly had liposuction done on her face. When she gained the weight back she no longer had body shots on her magazine cover - just face shots. How else could she have gained 40 or 60 pounds, but still have a face that's super skinny? Just take a look at picturees of her from years ago - she had a real double chin before, and now she's back to the same weight but no double chin? Please.

I guess in her mind liposuction doesn't count as weight loss surgery because it's just cosmetic? Well, it is weight loss surgery, but it only addresses the symptom of the problem, but not the problem itself. I sympathize with her weight struggles, and I sympathize that she has to struggle in front of millions of people - but I think that if she wants to practice what she preaches and be TRULY honest, she would see that having a lap band would be a bigger help than having Lipo, because it gets to the root of the problem. At any rate I wish her well losing weight - and us, too!

P.S. She has also probably had plastic surgery done - I could be wrong, but her nose isn't quite what it once. How is that better than having a surgery that can really help her health? It did bother me that she was so clearly against teens having the band. She's welcome to her opinion, but she shouldn't judge people for having a surgery that tremendously improves their happiness, all the while having plastic surgery and lipo on the side.

I'm changing the subjext here from Oprah, to Ruby. Her show is really an inspriation to me! She's losing the conventional way...portion control, nutritionist, therapist, personal trainer....but KUDOS to her for putting her personal life out there for all of us to admire!! No matter how anyone choses to lose weight, she keeps the real in perspective. She openly shares what we all go thru, how we all feel, and how others look at us. I do get very tired of her 'whiney" voice...but so enjoy her emotions on her weightloss journey.

I for sure sympathize with anybody who has a weight problem whether they have 5 or 500 pounds to lose, I hope my point came across right that Oprah is out of line comparing her 40 pound journey to somebody else's 100 pound journey. Which of us hasn't had a friend with 10 pounds to lose complain to us about how fat they are while we sit there on the verge of tears with our extra 100 or more? Even though the 10 pounds is a real problem to that person, it's insensitive. Kind of like complaining that we can't afford caviar to somebody who can't afford bread.< /p>

Oh I am so enjoying watching Ruby! I can't even imagine the courage it would take to find the determination to start when you are at the point where you can't even walk half a block. I have so much respect for her strength. I love that she can be whiny and annoying cause aren't we all sometimes? It's real, not sanitized for TV to make her look like a saint and like what she's doing is easy. Go Ruby!

is it just me- but when she spoke- it looked very "practised" - her emotion didn't seem real to me.

I thought I would see some tears from her- or something!

Don't get me wrong. I think a lot of Oprah. she's done a tremendous amount of humanitarian things that I greatly admire, and she freely gives her millions away to charities. BUT, I am also offended by her attitude towards WLS. It puzzles me. For crying out loud, she could be the poster child for yo-yo dieting!!!! She can serve as the prime example why for millions of people, dieting and exercise don't cut it. She obviously hasn't been successful at it (an probably never will given her age). So how can she honestly sit there and pass judgement on those who have had WLS, while she herself can not do what she so openly supports? I saw a time line of her on the internet the other day. It was done in photos every two years since she was very young. She definately has weight issues, and she definately isn't winning the battle. Personally? I'm PROUD of myself and all of you out there, for being strong enough to take the bull by the horns and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! Instead of sitting there whining and blaming it on thyroid problems. I take thyroid medication too. All the more reason to get that extra help for myself. The end. I step off my soap box. Anyone else?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
