Hello fellow bandsters!!

Recommended Posts

:banana I am so sorry!! I could have sworn that I introduced myself right after I was banded. I searched all of my posts because I wanted to see what I had been thinking at the time (I have an awful memory) & I couldn't find my introduction! So here it goes.

My name is Jessica. I was banded on 1/26/05 by Dr. Rex Luttrell in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was one of his first LB patients. The surgery went well with the exception of my port tilting. My doc repaired it in March. I have had 2 fills since the repair & I am currently at 2ccs. So far I have lost 25 lbs. I have been plateaued for about a month & I am calling Monday to set up for another fill. I am a nurse but have not worked for a year due to a back injury which lead me to have this surgery. No surgeon would touch my back due to my size. My pre-band weight was 350 lbs. I also have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) which was a factor in my being overweight since puberty.I have been married to my DH for 13.5 years. In all of that time we have been unable to have children due to the PCOS.When I finally break the 250 lbs mark, my docs are hopeful that the PCOS will be controlled. This was another factor in my being banded. Plus being diagnosed with high blood pressure right before being banded. But, I am happy & feeling good! & things can only get better!! I hope by joining this site that I can be an inspiration to others & make some new friends! Good luck to everyone!!..............Jess:Bunny

Welcome...I am very close to you...I was 318 when started and I to have the PCOS. Only been married 6 years and we have 1 child, (2 year old boy.) I know I was very lucky to have him. I was banded in June and I hope next year to have another on our own with no help. That is my goal anyway. Best of luck to you in your new life and I am sure all things will work out great for you and your DH.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
