Productive Burp or Belch.

You bring up what will not go down. Rather like a cat with a hair ball.

It's no fun. It's to be avoided and it's certainly not pretty.

Most people feel them coming on and run for the potty. There are stories of them happening in odd places and at very bad times.

HTH.

For me, I feel like a lump in my throat and a bit nauseous. If I try and take another bite It gets worse. I can hold it and politely excuse myself from the table and hit the toilet. It's not like gut wretching vomit it's more like relief of pressure with a bit of food and a lot of slime. I can go on eating normally a little more mindful of how I'm chewing my food afterwards. It's not healthy but it's more bothersome then painful.

It's not like vomiting. No.

You have a pile of food sitting on top of your band which will not go down, so it has to come up.

Depending on how pressurized it is, say you at ate a lot before you noticed because you were eating quickly, it's going to come up more urgently.

If you swallowed something that's not been chewed properly and there's not a whole lot sitting on top of it, it may be a little hack and slime. You may work at bringing it up too, because it's not comfortable and the stuff may just not move through.

It was months before I PBed but nearly everyone will do it. Some people more than others. If it's happening too often it's a sign you need to adjust your behavior or your band.

Good luck.

Or eventually it does and you sit miserably while you

Come on..... Call it what it is. It is vomiting - plain and simple. It is not a burp - that requires gas, which we all don't do well.

It occurs when you have

1. Eaten too much

2. Eaten too fast - not chewing enough, too big a piece

3. Drinking while eating.

When it happens to me - about once per week - I need to be in a bathroom.

While it is not something to do, it does happen, and in my opinion it is not that bad. There is no stomach acid, no bad taste. It tastes just like what you just ate.

That's my 2 cents, but I have always hated the term used here PBing. It's vomiting - call it what it is

I don't call it vomiting because to me that means the contents of the stomach with the acid etc, coming up and out.

It's different.

I vomited before the band. What I do now is different. It requires a different word to describe it. BTW, I've been known to give a full blown stomach virus vomit since being banded too. And that's entirely different from chucking up food which will not pass the band.

If by chance you think by calling it something other than vomiting one is trying to "sugar coat" what is actually happening, making bad choices, behaving in bad ways than say that. I don't see hacking up what you ate as a good weight control method and see PBing as embarassing or even vile, but it's not vomiting.

At least not to me.

Fine, but PBing is a misleading way to talk about it.

Also, I didn't say for a moment that it was a good weight control method. Where ever did you get that statement.

You have lost a lot BTW - good for you

Oh my you in no way said it was a good method. I was just making a general statement. I pulled the statement from the thin air, because I don't want people to assume I advocate pbing. And dude, bring on a new and better word for the activitiy.

However, I have been known to say I had surgery to learn to be bulemic, but of course only to those twisted people who get the whole going from SMO to regular thing and there aren't many of us.

And thanks for the compliment on the loss. It's something else. You're doing a bang up job yourself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
