Hey guys! My name is Kristin Seely. I live in western washington and i'm 18 years old. I'm scheduled to have my surgery on January 14th. I have Dr.Lauter, does anyone know him? It would be an understatement to say that i'm a little nervous. I'm not too worried about the actual surgery, I just REALLY want this to work. I'm so tired of being overweight and not fitting in at my high school. I'm also a little unsure about the recovery after the surgery. I'm going to have to go back to P.E the week after my surgery and i'm hoping i'll be able to participate? How long did it take for you guys to recover and be able to walk around? I am really glad I found this site. I looked around it for awhile and found a lot of helpful information. Random question..did you guys have any trouble telling people about the surgery? I know my teacher is going to ask (when i miss a few days), and I don't know whether to tell him about it or not. Have a good day!

I live in Washington too. I'm 22 and I know how you feel. You may be ready to do some light pe after a week, but everyone is different. If you don't want to tell people you had LapBand surgery you can always tell them you had to have your gallbladder removed or something, but really it's no ones business unless you choose to make it their business. I'm always around if you need to talk...oh by the way my name is Holli :) Good luck on your journey!!!

I think that it helps to be younger...but who knows. At first I was so scared to eat because I didn't want to get stuck or vomit or anything. I still have never gotten stuck or had any problems. You just have to believe in yourself. Believe that you are ready and that you're going to do it this time. It doesn't hurt to have help and support from friends and family. They say that the average weightloss is 1-2 pounds a week, but I haven't really been working out yet, except for some walking. Good luck...you can do it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
