Is this normal? OMG!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I was banded on 12/18. My appetite came back with a vengeance a few days ago. Started mushies at 2 weeks post op- yay!

So tonight for dinner I was able to eat an entire can of pureed refried Beans. I feel really stuffed now- I am not sick or in pain, but do you think I messed something up? I was just soooo hungry and hadn´t eaten anything since lunch.< /p>

Is is possible for the band to slip from eating mushies?

Call your doc. But my first response would be to say no because from what I've heard of band slippage you can't get anything down.

This actually is common. You swelling has gone down and thus your hunger will increase. It is the natural cycle of the healing process. I didn't have any hunger for about 2 weeks and then when I did get to mushies I had lots of hunger at first. Since then my hunger has leveled out. I have never been able to eat more then 2 cups of food, which is a normal sized can of Beans or Soup, and get full. Normally I eat about 1 cup of food and have no hunger for 2 to 3 hours. This is how we know that we need a fill. With the proper fill amount you should get your hunger after about 4-5 hours. I controlled this with a very small light snack between meals. This goes back to having 3 square meals a day with a small snack between meals.

Please if you think this might be abnormal at all do call your docs office to talk to a nurse to see what they might have to say.

Thanks for the responses!

I will mention it to my surgeon when I see him. And I have starting measuring out my food! No more eyeballing it for me.

The same thing happened to me, i was banded on 12-18 also, and i was starting to eat more, but i went for my two week check up yesterday , and my doc told me to eat more Protein. She told me eat chicken, fish, turkey sausage, even though i am only on may third week. She also said its better to do 40z at a time , and then if your still hungry eat another small meal two hours later. I would still check with your doc. Just to be safe. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
